Power/ weight ratio?
Don't know if there are any physicist out there but I have a mathematical question I need to try to answer before any testing. Excuse it's feaken cold out and I can't . So here is the question
If I'm cruising at 3500rpms at full fuel tanks getting 11/2-2 miles per gal at 9000lbs . What will I be burning with another 1500lbs of extra fuel. I do understand that I don't have any other variables at this moment ( it's freaken cold out) but does anyone have any clue as to what this weight load would do to mpg? |
Are you planning to keep the throttle position in the same position and let the speed vary or hold at 3500 RPM regardless of weight?

Depending on whether all other aerodynamic and hydrodynamic variables remaining the same, and assuming a constant rpm of 3,500, at what point to you want to make the calculation as to fuel consumption? The number will be in constant change because the weight of the boat will decrease as you burn fuel.

without less fuel you'll get closer to two mpg . . . . . with the more fuel you will get closer to 1 1/2 :D

2 empty tanks being towed back to the dock will yield your best fuel economy.

I have a super computer at work. I plugged in your word problem, and right before the computer caught on fire, I smelled what I can only describe as marijuana. It seems as though the computer knew it was stressing and figured the best way to relax was to fire up a joint.
Wow. 1.108973 to 1.220089 mpg was the answer before it imploded. |

Let's try this. What about speed loss due to weight ? Let's say you have two really fat chicks in the boat weighing in at 1500 lbs. what kind of mph could be due to 2) hogs. I'm trying to calculate how to get 300 miles without stopping for fuel. Maybe this is easier to calculate with fat chicks... Don't know
