Can't they just leave something good alone. Our family made some great memories hanging there. Isn't the tax made from rentals and other goods sold enough.

If they want a revenue grab, all they need to do is regulate the morons in the rental pontoon boats and rental PWCs between Destin Harbor and Crab Island. I was almost hit 4 times in one hour...while I was ANCHORED. Not like my boat is tough to see or anything. <facepalm>

That's not the reason - they want the revenue from DWIs and to be able to regulate things going on there, such as indecent exposure.

Leave it alone..... one of my FAVORIT spots.
although, I am not a fan of all the giant floating slids. Food, t shirts, the boiled peanuts... are all good though ha. |

But we have a similar issue here in the Banana River, a place called "Ski Island". When I moved to Brevard Co. in 1990, it truly was ski island, NOW it in the middle of a Manatee zone, so no more H2Osking there now. BUT, what has also happened over the years, is that the under age drinking crowd was chased off Cocoa Beach by LE, and they have made Ski Island their new party spot. And in the summer, it gets REALLY crazy and wild, I don't go there anymore if I have my family with me, there are fights, indecent exposure, LOUD rap music, etc. And the USCG, or any local LE, just cruise around the island, but they are hardly ever on the island, unless, they witness a crime taking place. The place is "R" rated in the summer time, every weekend...... Believe, I'm not some kind of old foggie or anything, it's just I'm not going to expose my 14 yr old daughter and her friends to the nudity and beer bongs. We have found other islands to hang out at, and so have a lot of our family boating friends... |

I think this the correct answer also. It's too bad, that used to be 1 of my favorite boating spots in Fl.
