GM Gen VII BBC Stock Hydraulic Roller Lifter Max Spring Load
 

What is 1.) the max seat load and 2.) the max over the nose spring load that the subject lifter will survive long term and no bleed down? Only knowledgeable responses please.

Crane, themselves (the old Crane) did a test about 5-6 yrs ago and brought them up to 200lbs (and a little change) seat and 500lbs (and a little change) over the nose to see how far they could push them to bring up the rpm capabilities.

I don't have the engine builder nor customer bulletins they would send out monthly anymore and that part of the website went down when Crane folded some years back.........so.....you'll have to go by my memory on that one.

Thanks SB. Was this a short test just to evaluate if the lifter would function at those loads and higher rpm or a durability type test as well?

Basically Morel was coming out with, or should I say breaking into the bigger known market, lifters that where showing some real strengths in the sense of being able to use more spring psi and thus extended rpm capabilites and then Crane seemingly 'just went for it' as far as seeing what there's (Crane's) could really do.

If Marine Kinetics doesn't see this thread I'll put a call in....as I'm pretty positive he received the same info and we talked about this a few times....both about Crane and Morel.

I better clarify the lifter I am asking about. It is GM PN 17120060 used in the GM Gen 7 8.1L BBC 2001-2005 or 2006 and Mercruiser 496HO same date range. I do not know who actually makes it for GM. Are you saying Crane makes this lifter and that was the lifter that was tested as you describe?

I put 160lbs on them in a whippled 496.they are now in members pinball's sutphen.6-7yrs,still running.

I found this lifter listed in Chevrolet Performance catalogue for the ZZ572/601 engine:

Bob Madera posted there in that the GM seat load spec for that engine is 197#@1.950".

ArticFriends also posted in that thread " I was running 185 seat/440 open per tyler crocketts advice on 610 hyd roller,just tore motor down to freshen w/130 hours,lifters were fine other than some scuffing on the bodys from lifter bore holes being too tight." However although implied he did not specifically mention the ZZ572 engine or the 17120060 lifter part number.

So I will still confirm this information with Bob Madera.

It would appear that the stock 17120060 lifter is a much more capable than I thought much to my surprise.
