sounds like I will be there fri late or sat am early
wonder what I would look like if I rented a Uhaul truck to tow the boat

Kat, sounds great but I cannot take someone elses boat without htem in it I am just to nervous
I was looking more for riding when everything is done and I am sure people will cruise the river

Gordo, the seats sound like a great idea

cool temps mean high speeds just not long running

Boatless, will you save seat next to me??

I guess I'm not sure what's going on with the discount on the rooms. I got that info from Mac.
Gordo - the marina looks quite a bit different from the last time you were there. The current owners installed 50 visitor slips in front of the marina a few years ago. We will be roping off some of these to use as the staging area for the participants during the races but there will also be a few available slips in the private slip owners area. I've just been telling everyone (including locals) that if they want a slip - be there by Friday or take your chances. They have also been clearing the banks across from the boat slips so people can beach up (river boaters are used to this)
If you'd like to get a little better feel for the marina - check out the pictures on OmahaRiverFront.com from the Missouri River Poker Run.
We'll see ya in a few days!

Boatless Cowgirl,

Thanks for the weather update! I had been thinking along the lines of packing shorts and tank tops. I guess it's that time of year to start packing clothes for hot and cold weather!

I don't want summer to be over!

Well who knows, like today here in Kansas, High temp 91.
Tomorrow high temp 65. So, yes, you will need to pack warm weather and cold weather clothes.
Oh, and remember it is after Labor Day so break out the felt hat!

Doug - I have you confirmd for 2 visitor slips (no elec) & 1 with elec that we'll find a place fpr you amongst the river rats.

I also need to let you all know that today has not been very good here - we lost one of our own this morning - Bernie Balkus who drove the only Challenger on the river & just bought a house on mm10 at LOTO was killed this morning. He worked for the railroad & had a tragic accident. He was ran over by his own train while trying to save a group of dogs from getting ran over.

We just returned from his house & are planning a memorial for him with the shootout. His widow - Shari - is postponing his funeral until Monday because she didn't want it to interfere with this weekends event. This has, obviously, left us all in a state of shock but we are going to do what he would have wanted & go on with the show.

I know that as boaters, you will all understand & appreciate our morning of someone who was very special to us all. We are therefore dedicating the Missouri River Shootout 2002 to the memory of Bernie Balkus -

'He was a friend of mine - I met him on the river'

Thats terrible, Nancy My condolences to his family and friends.

Anyone coming up for the Shootout, bring your jeans and sweatshirts. Sat high 65* and lows in the mid 40's. Possibly some light rain on Fri.

Unfortunately, I can't make it up at all. Can't get off work on Fri or Sat.

My condolences, from his wifeís actions it appears they both loved life. It is a time to rejoice.

I misread your post about anyone wanting slips to show up Friday and take your chances. Iím assuming that means they are sold out.

Whatís this weather going to do to the bikini contest?
