Career Advice - long post!
 

I will TRY to keep this short. Probably the wrong spot for this but I would like some opinions from people not trying to recruit.

I have been in the mortgage business since 2001. A loan officer from 2001-2005, and I went out on my own in 2005 and started my own broker shop. Which I did until 2014. The new regulations were making it tough for the smaller players out there, so I started looking at operating as a branch for a larger mortgage company. In my search, I was offered an opportunity to work as an Sales Representative for a large mortgage company. This was selling our services to smaller lenders and brokers, instead of offering mortgage loans to the public. I knew there would be a learning curve, but I thought I would regret it if I didn't try. I enjoy the job, but promises were made that aren't being kept. I am now being told the company is going in a new direction. So, I have 3 choices.

1) I can go along with this new direction even though I was promised something else.

2) I can go back and operate as a loan officer/branch as that is an open offer.

3) I can look for something outside the mortgage industry.

In exploring option 3, I haven't found an industry that really gets me excited. The one part I still enjoy about the mortgage industry is (most of the time), the harder I work the more I can make. This usually leads to a "sales" type of career. And to be honest, I am good at sales when it requires some intellect, product knowledge and persistence. But, I am not great at being the "car salesman" type of high pressure quick closer. That's not a dig at car salesmen at all, as I think that is a talent.

I am very mechanically inclined, good with numbers and I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis on Finance and Management.

Looking for some ideas that I may not have considered.

The money ain't great to start, but it's better than digging ditches, and once you get above a 12 grade, life is good (so I'm told).

My son was in a similar situation. Needing a new start after hitting a deadend. He got into construction equipment sales and leasing which is working out well now with all the new construction start up and old structure demolition in S.E. Michigan..
