My Windshield Sucks...need some advice PLEASE
So my windshield really sucks. I am 6' tall and can not see over it when I am sitting down driving my boat. The person I purchased the boat from must of painted the stock windshield white...which looks ok but I have to be standing to see over it while sitting down. My windshield is made of lexan I am assuming and I was wondering what my options are to get something better. I would like something that would possibly update the look ??
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. My boat is 1997 35' Lightning |
Might help if you post a picture

Is it a painted windshield or the race fairing that Fountain offered from the factory? If its the windshield, then you can remove it from the boat, disassemble it and remove the glass. That can then be used as a pattern for making new glass. Or you could simply take the whole windshield to a glass shop and have them replace it for you.

it is a lexan windshield with no frame. It used to be clear from the factory but someone before me painted it..

Talk to Chris mills at boat customs in holland just did a boat update on a fountain 517 712 3512.

Here is a pic of the boat..

I had a 35 with a smoke colored windshield and could barely see thru it. I'm over 6 feet and just drove the boat standing up.

Normally that style of boat you stand anyways and look just above the windshield fairing. Even if it was clear you wouldn't look through that style of windshield fairing.
|
Can't you strip it, sand it with progressively finer grits then buff with compounding materials?
|
Raise your seat. I like the look of the fairing.

I do normally drive it standing up but I also have a lot of times that I have to go through no wake zones to get out of the bay and river that I boat in and near. It would be nice to sit down once in a while..hahaha

And yes, it's nice to sit down in our long No Wake zones. |

Now I know which windshield you have. As I stated before, remove it and take it apart. Then you can use the painted Lexan pieces as patterns for somebody to make you a new one - in clear, smoked or whatever.

Get a pillow for those long wake zones, throw in cockpit once cleared. I usually stand, but can barely look over the windscreen when idling, but usually stand or sit back in bolster with feet up on foot steps.
