Default Daytona sensors

Hello all.
Well I think I've finally decided on my ignition system.

I'm going to go ahead and pony up for the Daytona sensors CD box with matching coil and the USB patch cord accessory kit.
I'm going to use a mallory electronic marine distributor. Part number YLM 624.

Other than locking the distributor at full advance and using the PC programmable timing retard function, is anyone using any of the other features on a carbureted application?
I plan to use the rev limiter too.

I can't think of anything to use the auxiliary switches for.

Anyhow, just thought I'd throw this out there.

Just installed those daytona boxes on a pair of 900sc mercs. Those things blow msd away not sure why anyone wastes their money on msd. It has timing retard option when cranking so now these engines crank over like a 4cyl. It also uses the timing as an IAC motor so the motors never stall when shifting and the 900sc being supercharged there is no blower surge what so ever.I have it dialed in to idle all day at 950rpm I used the original merc distributor, great detailed instructions. I Set the timing at 32 at 3k. Anythng before 3k doesnt matter the timing is everywhere.I got them from cobra power, randy was a huge help.

It has programmable timing curves.
It has rpm activated outputs.
Most importantly, it doesn't crap out regularly. Or, so I've been advised.

Ok that is comparing it to the msd 6520, not the 6530 which does the same as the daytona... As far as reliability? I have had luck with msd non marine boxes, I would never run the marine ones (blue) , they are filled with some epoxy, or something.

I've been using the Daytona boxes for a year. I'm using a 3d timing table with a MAP sensor to adjust timing based on boost and RPM. I use all the features the box has,( idle stabilization, rev limiter, rpm switch to turn on aux elec fuel pump, crank retard....) the box CAN do anything you'd like it to but figuring out how to make it do the things you want is difficult. The instructions for programming are not very clear and the Tech (Chris) who wrote the program is the biggest dick I everhas the mis fortune of speaking with. The owner of the company is a great guy and willing to help, but he is not overly knowledgeable on programming the box. When you get them contact me and I'll walk you through everything I have learned.

Idle stabilization works by advancing the timing when the rpm drops below your programmed minimum.
Here is the trick to understanding how this box works: the box really never advances timing, it really pulls timing out different amounts as needed to give your desired timing. For example : let's say you want your all in timing to be 34 degrees and idle to be at 20 degrees. You basically set your static/base timing to 34, as if you had a locked in timing ignition, when you start the engine the box pulls back 14 degrees from your "trigger timing" of 34 giving you an idle of 20. Once you understand how the box really works, it's great how much it can do
