One person life raft for a one person flight. If taking more people, you would bring a bigger raft. Why carry more weight for a bigger raft when theres only one person on board?

+1 you know he had a mission specific survival kit as well as fuel provisions. I hate to see such a sweet machine go down like that.

Two observations...When the chute deployed it got hung up in the rear. Normally the plane goes horizontal immediately when suspended under the chute, that had to be kinda harry from the helm pointed nearly straight down. Also was surprised how quickly the chute dragged the 22 underwater. Wind and sea conditions were up but man, it drug her over almost immediately. If there were 4 on board it would have taken a quick evac to get everyone out.

If you ever get a chance to fly a Cirrus 22 DO IT.

Is that just something pilots do? Taking a one person raft and if they have more people they take a bigger raft or take nothing when not going over the ocean, maybe just a life vest for rivers and ponds, a swimming noodle for ....
Just kidding.
I think what we see is a multi person raft but that's about as big as it gets for a small plane.

They are very compact and light, come with a charge built in for inflation. They are not coast guard approved but FAA approved and way better than any crap you can buy for the boat. I always keep a 6 man on our boats even though it isn't CG approved. Here is a link, check out the dimensions and weights: http://aaaliferafts.com/6_man_aviati..._approved.html

And yes, if you are not flying a water route then you leave the raft at home most of the time.
