Int. Forums Are A Collection Of Opinions & facts . . . . .

When someone posts a question about, for example, an engine, he will get many responses and many different opinions and viewpoints. One cannot possibly follow all of the different advice. One must take all of the input, weight it out and decide a course of action based on the answers received. If those who post advice that is not implemented cannot handle that then maybe they shouldn't be playing on the internet. The way some "engine builders" conducted themselves on this forum recently was a real eye opener and was for sure not helpful to their business. I know a few people now who will never touch my boat. You can sure tell the classy business people from the hotheads from some of these threads. Just an observation. Carry on.

WTDecker 02-08-2015 10:37 AM

Why wouldn't someone touch your Boat? I have always liked Donzi's, Great Boats!

mike tkach 02-08-2015 10:46 AM

well in my opinion this will be another useless thread.i,m not sure what you are trying to do here and don,t really care.my guess is you are bored with the winter weather and need something to waste time on.if you are trying to promote a chitstorm you just might.as far as some one not getting your buisness,my guess is they don,t want it anyway!if you have something to say to someone who was involved in that thread why don,t you man up and be straight-foreward with that person?carry on.

MILD THUNDER 02-08-2015 09:36 PM

At the way the current trend has been going, we won't have to worry about debating the best way to build an engine.

There won't be anyone here left to debate with. The tech section will be filled with unanswered questions, and the tens of thousands of novices who once were able to come here and get instructed on how to repair their vessels , will be left to take it to a shop and pay thru the nose.

The majority of the guys answering these posts, have nothing to gain . I personally can look back and think I've done my part to help guys over the past 10 years. I've watched many come on here, offer absolutely nothing , take take take when they need something.

I may not be politically correct, nor an expert/professional in any area, and admit can sometimes be a total dik. But I'm not the one to leave a fellow boater one his own when in trouble. Whether it be the forums or real life. There are plenty around here who wouldn't throw you a line unless there was something in it for them. I see it all day every day here. They lurk on the threads, keep quiet, and pounce on the guy trying to help, or simply won't post anything in public, but love talking behind the scenes.

BUP 02-08-2015 10:05 PM

I think I try to post some tech stuff and carry on further with info on top of info. But I do know where you are coming from about some people will always have something to dog you about. Kills me because they only received their info on threads thru out to make them look like they know everything and how it should be done.

I find this funny to, like when someone asks about which boat they should buy, then some people will list brands like they know all about those brands - heck they never driven nor been in 90 % of the boats they are talking about.

Anyways I found this one day on facebook, a guy was asking questions about his Mercruiser 496 with running problems and some guy replied to help, his reply was my exact words - word for word that I posted up here before, I understand the guy was trying to help that OP out on facebook but . I laughed my tail off and never said anything until now. I seen this happen before from someone else in a thread up here that was about a year ago or more but could careless..Just saying no big deal on my end.

MILD THUNDER 02-08-2015 10:21 PM

Bup, I've always found your posts insightful. You're an asset here on oso

Crude Intentions 02-08-2015 10:32 PM

There are a lot of smart guys on here who do their best to help. I'd hate to lose those guys over some BS. I've learned a lot just from reading these posts and even talking to some. Not only from guys who are just weekend wrenchers but also some knowledgable builders. I enjoy the info from all. Please don't let some whining and bickering keep you guys from offering advice and knowledge.

BUP 02-08-2015 10:34 PM

Thanks MT, I have thought the same about you and Mike and of course some others. Bob M always has something to learn from to.

A couple of years ago I was real hesitate about posting up here especially as much as I do now. Also I have talked to a lot guys on the phone this past 8 months from OSO that I would never have known. Believe it or not I would say close to 50 to 60 if not more from OSO.

I knew very few people before 2 years ago up here. Maybe 5 back then. I really like sportboats but my area not many to hang with nor have that common interest with.

thirdchildhood 02-09-2015 06:44 AM

This site is awesome for getting help. I had a similar issue a few years back on a Donzi specific forum when I asked how to go about beefing up my hull before powering up. Many great replies from people I trust and respect but the answers ranged from "do nothing" to fully core and vacuum bag the engine room, and that was from a most respected former Donzi employee. Then the materials that I should use was far from unanimous. I have no way of vacuum bagging. I had to weigh out all of the advice and come up with a plan. I decided to work largely with the help of one glass guy who helped walk me through the glass work but what I did was a plan that I came up with to beef up the engine room floor while considering the advice that I received. . Like what happens here sometimes, I got ragged on for seeking advice and not taking it. There was just no way to satisfy everyone as there were so many different ways suggested to accomplish my goal. That did not make the suggestions any less appreciated and useful. I respect many of the boaters here, especially those who work in the industry. I've asked many technical questions here but I never had someone rip me apart for not doing something their way. There is no need to feel slighted if your advice is considered but not implemented in the long run. It's impossible to take all of the advice when it conflicts. That is my point. Please don't stop trying to help other boaters with their questions but threads should not blow up like a couple here have recently. Peace.

I completely disagree with the OP. By spending some time reading this board I feel like the cream has risen to the top and I now feel very confidant about who to give my money to.
The fact that a builder is passionate in his beliefs says allot about them

Ed, you're one of the best here. You help a lot of people and I've never seen you get upset if someone disagrees with you. But why is your web site for sale?

Young Performance 02-09-2015 11:30 AM

My domain name expired for 1 day and Go Daddy scooped it up and wants 3K to sell it back to me. I wasn't going to be held hostage so I changed it to www.YoungPerformance.com.

Thank you. I realize that there is more than one way to skin a cat. What works for me may or may not work for someone else. For that reason, there are quite a few discussions that I won't even get into on here....like camshaft choice, clearances, etc. Those are things that I will keep to myself. Others may do it differently. If it works for them, then who am I to tell them it's wrong. There are some things that if you asked 10 builders, you would get 10 different answers. They may all work just fine though. If I don't agree with something, I'll tell you why I don't agree with it. That may or may not be a valid reason to some but it is to me. I will never say that my way is the only way to do something. I'll simply say that it's the way we do it. It works for us but it's not the only way.
Eddie

Bigbikiniboobs.com is for sale ?

ICDEDPPL 02-09-2015 02:02 PM

I think you missed what happened. When someone gives their opinion backed up by facts and the other person goes out of their way to say that advice is completely wrong because someone else said so. When that person who has no technical ability himself, tells you he'll call you if he needs his tank filled at the gas station..at that point what would expect to happen?
Disagree all you want do things differently, who cares.. it's not my $$.. Go of your way to call my buddy an *******. Sorry but I got his back.

onesickpantera 02-09-2015 02:27 PM

That's just the nature of open forums, and they definitely get worse during the off season. I do agree that the Donzi forum was much worse. There were a handful of "my way is the only right way" attitudes there. That being said, it is still no comparison to a clutching post on a snowmobile forum!!!

i also have his back.i let everything settle and i reread that mess several times.endevour32 changed his mind after going one direction, hell my wife does that all the time and he has the right to do that.imo,he crossed the line when he on a public forum belittled the man he origionally asked for help.a lot of info came out after the fact but the bottom line is,NO NEED TO BELITTLE THE GUY HE ASKED TO HELP HIM.yes,if i was joe i would have gotten mad to.i am a pretty good judge of charecter and i know who was out of line.i will also say that if i felt joe was wrong i would have told him so and we would still be friends!

Welcome to the world of "cut & paste"...

thirdchildhood 02-09-2015 06:05 PM

I didn't intend to rehash the other thread. I would like to point out a couple of my opinions but that would just start the debate over again. I didn't want this thread to turn into another mess either. I was just pointing out that a tech thread will get a lot of different answers and the OP has to sort it out and decide his direction which will leave some people thinking that they were ignored and wasted their time when that's not the case. And spring is close as I predict a mild March and boating by early April so get the boats ready and hope that we are dewinterizing them within two months. I'm picking mine up from Brian Orlandi's shop (shameless plug) tomorrow where it got the 525 top end service.

mike tkach 02-09-2015 06:17 PM

you made a good choice going with brian.from what i know of him he is a stand up guy and does good work.

buck35 02-09-2015 06:56 PM

If anyone wants to reread and rehash the debacle thread, phragle gets a 10 for hitting the nail on head , too many cooks in the kitchen and the chit hits the fan. Hopefully everyone will get past it and the excellent info will continue as I for one love the vast amount of information to be gained!

Young Performance 02-09-2015 07:45 PM

I didn't know what the fuss was all about. I haven't been on much lately and totally missed that abortion of a thread. I just read it and all I can say is.....WOW.

the deep 02-09-2015 08:02 PM

For a while it wasn't safe to go in the tech section less risking getting splattered with the chit being slung . Glad that's over . I gotta go wash up now . :noevil:

I did the same as I was clueless. Obviously it was the locked thread so I did some late night drama reading. Emotions were definitely running high!
