Boat Molds

A friend of mine is looking for a couple of boat molds to build some V-hulls as he already has some cat molds. He is looking for something in the 26 thru 32 range. IMO probably a proven step hull if all possible. Also really looking to do single engine app but is open if the right twin app came along.

just asking what ever happened to the 28 Apache Brave hull - I know it went later on to Cherokee boats so what happened after that ? That would be good 28 non stepped hull. Most of those 28's were twin apps so how did a single run probably not that fast, correct Thanks

Nykamp 02-08-2015 06:19 PM

The 28 Apache mold is at Apache in Ft Meyers.

BUP 02-08-2015 06:27 PM

Thanks, did not know always wondered. Was I correct that Cherokee had it at one time ? I think that company was like 3 or 4 owners or investors and did not stay around very long ?

Ing 02-08-2015 06:48 PM

Mark McManus owns it along with a 24 Apache mold. I believe Eric Froberg had the 28 mold under Cherokee boats. See if Kirk Rogers will sell his Kryptonite molds. He's way out on eastern tip of LI.

BUP 02-08-2015 07:07 PM

Thanks for the info and Yep know all the NY manufacturers. I told my friend maybe rent a mold from whomever is not building anything currently. Funny how a few builders have their molds still and have not built anything in years.

boomer 02-08-2015 07:39 PM

There is a guy in Rhode Island that I see advertising the 26 or 27 signature molds on craigslist every once in awhile

noli 02-08-2015 08:14 PM

.

I think the old Superboat 34 mold is for sale....reasonably priced, the last time I heard. I can dig up some old emails if you're interested.

I do like the SB and the 30 boat has done well over the years. The 34 I can not remember what boat that was 1 st, it was an older V-hull non step but SB added the step. If I recall correctly the SB 34 had only a couple of boats made. Thanks for all the replies keep them coming. I will talk to the guy who is looking for the V-hull molds tomorrow.

PARASAIL941 02-09-2015 07:28 AM

The Wellcraft molds have been for sale here in Bradenton for awhile . Dont know whats left or the condition (maybe junk by now ) . I know they advertised the 18 , 22 , 26 , 29 , 302 , 31 , 33avs , 35 Larry Smith. If your interested in these , I can take a look at them for you.

Sydwayz 02-09-2015 09:29 AM

The 32' Active Thunder cat molds went to Texas quite a few years ago; to a guy that wanted to build his own boat. That was the last we heard of them. They are probably down there baking in the sun somewhere.

Cat: 32'
Center console: 31'. It was sold to Adrenaline Powerboats (some past iteration of the company) and became the V30 single/twin.
The 32' straight bottom is still owned and used by Active Thunder, as it's the basis for the 28 V-bottom and forthcoming 29 AVH.

there was a set of molds for sale in Mentor OH that was an updated variant of the 27 Excalibur that looked very nice. I think it was St Martin Powerboats or something like that. They were for sale here and ebay i think, something like thirty thou that included two complete hulls on trailers and the molds or something to that affect. Really good looking boat and they ran well, i thought seriously about buying them but i am busy enough :D . . . . . .

thats a shame, i know they were very high quality. Who has them and is anything being done with them?

BUP 02-09-2015 03:37 PM

Yes that was St Martin Powerboats that had the 27 Excal - they had 2 unrigged boats and molds to sell as a package deal. Do not know what happened with that. I thought they were located in Florida selling mini outboard sport boats. Something like 12 / 14 ft size boats

Powerplay 38 mold went to Sunsation as to bring forth their F4 boat after that was completed it was chopped up. I think thats how that story went or at least I heard about 3 years ago. I think Powerplay who currently makes the CC boats and will be on display at the Miami Boatshow has the 33 V-hull Powerplay molds. I heard they are not for sale either. That's the story I heard to.

Brian I got the AT CC 31 mixed up with the 32 cat, I knew there was 31 boat somewhere in AT line up. Did not know about the 32 V-hull non step was the platform for the 28 / 29.

OK that makes sense, I wondered where the F4 came from.

Sunsation acquired a bare Powerplay HULL that became the plug for the F4 way back in the day.

Some solid info on this thread:
http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/g...ats-molds.html

...albeit my first post was off slightly:
32' Active Thunder = still with AT.
31' Active Thunder CC = was sold to Adrenaline.

Sunsation did not receive the 38 PP mold from Danny. Danny made them a 38 hull and it was shipped unrigged to Algonac. Then Wayne broke out the sawsall. The sides were cut out of the hull and grafted onto the opposite sides, the hull was cut in half and extended, extra steps were added, a Dominator nose was grafted onto the front, built in swim platform added on, etc.

Hard to believe no one jumped on that deal. Wish it had of been closer to me.. Think the 2 hulls were made at Checkmate. Not sure where the molds came from or went to.

I heard the 38 Power Play and only that mold (38) was a design from www.mpyd.net and you can look at MP other designs that is listed on the web page..

I will run into Sunsation on Thursday and ask about the F4, not doubting anyone here but will try to confirm.

Ing 02-10-2015 12:45 PM

Brian Hollis has his two Joker molds, the 26 (Corsa) and 28.

I was on the shop floor when the buck was being crafted on several different occasions. So, no need to doubt. It's too bad Sunsation shut down their forum as the construction of the boat from the time the hull arrived to when the molds were finally completed was well documented by both Sunsation and the investor in the boat (Mentalpause here on OSO). What ended up being the F-4 was originally supposed to be a 37'ish boat. More along the lines of what the 36 is today. Then that grew to around 39'. Then the PP hull was brought in. Mental got a call one day from either Joe or Dave and was informed Wayne cut the boat in half. So it then grew to 43' (counting platform). This is why the first F-4 was the only 600/Bravo boat built. The original size/deal called for it to be a 525 boat. 700's/NXT's had not yet come to market. 850's/6's would have been a huge jump in price on the original deal. So 600's it was to help fill in that huge engine compartment. I think the boat still would have ran OK with 525's but the 600's looked more "the part".

What's up with his Epic CC? Still have all the tooling? It's a great boat.

TeamSaris 02-10-2015 01:13 PM

If the 33 AVS molds are for sale and in ok shape snatch them...that is a fantastic running boat.
I doubt Kirk will sell the Kryptonite molds.

BUP 02-10-2015 10:43 PM

EPIC has the tooling and is a very good CC boat. The 28 Joker was called Prototype before that and that bottom first came from Strike Yachts CC boats but I think a step or 2 were added later - It was something like that if I recall about Strike CC boats. I can not speak for Brian H. but if you are interested in any of his boat brands, I would try giving him a call. He is a straight up guy and builds very quality boats, not a lot of them but the ones he has built are of very good quality.

The 38 AVS was a good running boat as well. Where is that mold.

I will pass this info on. The party who is looking is moving to Tennessee and will be starting up small to see how it goes at first . A lot of Boat industry in Tennessee so his thoughts were why not just move there plus he really wanted to get out of California especially for boat manufacturing.. So far he has the interior people signed on, he is signed on with Volvo Penta currently and looking at the other manu's and of course more. Thanks.

The guy offering the 33AVS molds also has a 38 AVS hull that may have been in the mold. The 33 mold looks really decent in pictures.
