Very cool, but i hear 557 is about equivalent to the 350 Verado in practice. Same prop, same ratio, tops at same rpm. Love to hear thoughts on this. Lots of buzz in Miami at the booths on this. Not from merc guys but from manufacturers.

so what your saying is that the extra horsepower that the 557 has is useless? Why?

that's what I was thinking....... It appears that the three 557 push the Midnight Express to 73 mph. it would appear that's similar to triple 350 Mercs.....

Well the point is there may not be any extra hp.

There is a lot more weight in a 557 that offsets a lot of that extra power. One advantage they can have is you can put two 557 instead on three 350 mercs. Less props in water, not sure how they do on gas.

i looked it up and the mercs beat it on gas, no surprise. although having the huge enignes off the backs decreases maintenence due to only having to have two engines in the water instead of three.

MTI gained something like 12 mph with triple 557's so not similar at all. The LSA engine they use is a beast.

how strong does the transom have to be to hold up the 3000+ lbs of engine back there:eekdrop:

so what would be assumed is the new 400 is going to just push 7marine out of the picture?
