I would think that a pair of the new Seven Marine 627HP outboards would be about the same performance as a pair of 600SCI's. They aren't as loud as the I/O's but they do sound great.

For the price of a big out board you could build a BBC with a lot more hp think what you could build with the 75g a 7 marine 557 cost

I didn't take the time to read all the posts here so forgive me if I'm repeating anything LOL...there are a lot of OB performance boats out there. more than I realized a few years ago... the problem is the 4 strokes are the future thanks to government regulations. what is needed is light weight high HP outboards. from what I was told, the 300x was the platform for that until uncle sam started his cr@p.... the 300xs's are a little over 500#'s the new 400r's are 667#'s and the 7 marine 557 or 667 are what?? 1000#'s???? the CC market is king right now so for a true die hard performance person you're going to be limited...just the way it is.

Primary reason I switched from an I/O to Outboards. I have a bad back, so simple things like oil changes, Impellers, spark plugs, etc became difficult for me. Now, with a 2 stroke, I don't have to change the oil. Any repairs can be done outside of the boat, standing up. I miss the sound of my BBC, but don't regret switching to OBs at all. Plus my 2 Strokes wind up so damn fast, the acceleration is incredible (comparing my single 496 w/close to 400hp after Stage II Tune in a Velocity 260 to twin 225 Optis on the back of a 30 Concept.... CC)

'Cause OB's drive their boats into restaurants of their own will...

Your just jealous because when they do, they can trim the motors/drives up and off the sand! You can't Do that with a I/O!! An I/O would have stopped well short of the restaurant due to the drive digging in. Advantage OB !!!
