Fazza catches on fire in Xcat race
fast forward to 35:20 to see Fazza's motor catch on fire. Don't know how often this happens but safety crew did a good job of getting there quick.

It's the only place I'd want to be near a vehicle fire. At least you can swim to safety or roll over the side to escape it. Despite flame suits, I'd lose my mind in a car or other vehicle after a crash or whatever and then see a fire has erupted.
Heck, I bought and extinguisher for my RZR yesterday...

I don't see Halon working on an outboard. Halon is heavier than air so it pushes the oxygen up - and out goes the fire. That is why with Halon you turn off all ventilation fans. Only way it would work on an OB is if the engine cover is intact and I bet that doesn't happen many times after an engine explosion.

No big deal, fire did not spread to the boat, the cowling is obviously trashed, the air deflector may have suffered some damage too. What I did notice and enjoy was watching the race, the start especially, the acceleration that Fazza had over the rest of the field, a very competitive field, those Victory cats are impressive in this field of racing.
I like all kinds of racing, I enjoyed watching the video, quite a bit of attrition, Mercury Outboard power was having some trouble that day...to be it looked liked all the teams were really getting after it every lap, running about 90 mph in mixed to rough open water per the graphic from the video.

Smarty, i thought it was a great race too. Fazza well ahead of the competition and i think they said on the lap prior to the fire that they had improved their last lap by :06 which is a great deal. they were untouchable at that point until having motor troubles. I think the Xcat series is pretty cool
