this is a great innovation for the ips. there is no longer need for cutting a hole in the bottom of the boat for the pod. my father said the old ips pod system which he ran on Rinkers was a very impressive ride. this is great for someone who has a boat that is 2007 (like BUP said) and newer to be able to wake surf comfortably?efficently off their older boat without having to purchase a $120,000 Mastercraft

Its not IPS. Its a Sterndrive....and it still requires a hole....albeit in the transom.
"Cutting a hole in the bottom" is not accurate. Either a premade part or tooling (plug) in the hull is used to properly laminate a ring in the hull structure, (or weld, in the case of Aluminum hulls) which accepts the IPS unit. "Cutting a hole" implies an afterthought, which the IPS system is not.
The "Old IPS Pod System"..? Nothing has changed from an install standpoint on IPS1 in 10 years. IPS 2&3 respectively, havent changed either. (Just bigger than (1).
Other than some internal oiling changes to accept DPS, and EVC (Software) generation changes, from a hardware perspective, there is no "OLD" or "NEW" system.....just a proven system.

If you had a twin engine boat with a notch, you could move the x up to something respectable.

Very long vid by Volvo but good info on the V6 Direct injection compared to outboard emissions. Just wait when outboards have to meet more emissions standards set by the EPA. If you think outboards are high priced now what till they really get tagged with decreasing emissions. I/O's will be making a comeback. The fwd facing drive is also in the vid.

Definitely looks safer for having people in the water near the boat

Just a quick summary, if you read through all the links:
  1. The forward-facing lower unit attaches to existing Volvo Penta sterndrives, so it can be retro-fitted.
  2. The drive is intended to compete with/replace inboard drives on ski/wake boats, not to compete with conventional sterndrives.
  3. There is no performance gain over a conventional DuoProp sterndrive.
  4. The Forward Drive option costs about $1200 more that the conventional DuoProp.
  5. The primary advantage over a traditional stern drive is safety - placing the props well under the boat.
  6. The primary advantage over shaft drives is efficiency and trim ability.
  7. It is not a "performance" drive, and cannot be raised to run as a surfacing drive.

Hope that clears up most of the questions...

Looks interesting but....
Question:
How does it sit on a trailer?? It looks like you cannot trim it all the way up and you expose the expensive props and drive to the launch ramps, roads, and steep driveways???
Also
A standard outdrive you can run very high if you are crawling through shallow spots.

Is there any information available on this?
