So I have been doing lots of research and found that the overall price difference between a good set of SBC manifolds/headers and the cheapest manifolds for an LS I can find are not that far appart... I am starting to look more and more at the LS's as my future powerplant. Start off running a N/A and eventually slap on a twin screw diy kit.
What do you guy's think of these types of spacers for the O2 sensor's ? http://www.chelseacoachworks.com/ima...od/355_074.jpg |
have you use the o2 like that?its a little to close for the intended operating egt temp the sensor is rated for.sensors like 900° max,its all about them being accurate and the heater circuit inside the cal chip needs that certain temp range.I'd put the densor farther down stream.
|
Thanks Sutphen , I think the same also. This is not my setup it's a company that offers this online. I would also like to move it down further on the setup.
|
Do any of the manifolds offered have good provisions for an O2? I think I recall seeing a plate that had a boss for an O2 that went between the manifold and riser, but that's about it.
|
I think all the instructions ive seen for a wide band O2 sensor want it about 18" or so from the cylinder head/header flange.
|
I have two sets of cmi LS headers for sale dyno time only 248 909 0240 jim
|
Hi Jim , Thanks for the offer but I have a feeling these may be a little over my budget. I just bought a motor now and kinda going one piece of the puzzle at the time. Let me know how much for fun.
Thanks Marc |
Hey Bor , since you seem to be down with building LS for marine use any advice or component I should be giving extra attention to in order to cover fire / spark issue's ?
I know the big no no for automotive parts in marine application is the starter but on the LS it's not like those old open starters that were found on vehicle in the 1980's... |

I know the big no no for automotive parts in marine application is the starter but on the LS it's not like those old open starters that were found on vehicle in the 1980's... I used the Pcm z06 closed cooling set up to protect the aluminum engine . The bravo coupler and bell housing bolts directly on the engine whit out any custom work . we put in a forged rotation assembly from compstar by callies and bored and torque plate honed the block to the specs of my builder . also we upgraded the valve train . But like I said before if you keep whit the stock engine I would not do anything to it beside maybe the closed cooling . hope this helps bor |
Thanks Bor I really appreciate your guidance. How about starter and alternator ? any special attention there ? Did you use the LS starter and alternator or did you find and use marine replacements ?
|
Did you contact KEM about exhausts yet ? Just wondering if price has changed.
Here is some alternators that may help: http://www.dbelectrical.com/c-7765-pleasurecraft.aspx and sarters (if the OE is not sealed/marine) : http://www.dbelectrical.com/c-8038-p...ft-marine.aspx |
Thanks SB , I emailed KEM twice and go nothing from them ... I found these's guys after sorting through hundreds of pictures of LS manifolds on google http://www.haxbyspeed.com/ they offer a set of manifold for 799$ , they look alright and price is decent. EDIT : I just checked the email and the response was from a Marinepowerusa address ... I guess they re-distribute the marinepower products
About the alternator and starter is their an actual difference beside some gaskets or contact covered by rubber booths ? Btw sorry about my spelling and sentences I am french ... |
Haxby is a current member here.
Look for any Holley EFI thread and you'll see him. LOl. |
I will do a search ! :)
I have a deal pending now on a 5.3 motor , just under 100 000 miles on it. I would probably get the whole boat rigged and running then redneck diy supercharge it with a m122 blower and Air to water aftercooler. |

I used the pcm alternator bracket but had to customise that as we build the ls 7 dry sump system on the engine and that moved the serpetine belt route a bit .because the crank has a longer snout . we just used the ls starter and alternator works great but my boat is always stored in heated building on the trailer never left in the water hope this helps bor |
Thanks Bor you are very helpful !
I am doing my research now about the simplest way to convert to a return style fuel system. I am very excited to start working on my project. |
If you are talking about how to return to the tank, here's your answer :

Thanks ! cool product ... never even crossed my mind to do something this simple.

^ cool article ! I had not seen it before .... 1000hp on a stock worn bottom end is comforting...
French redneck ... yeah we are a rare bread up here ... Everyone up here get's their work done by someone else , so fitting an ls or any other motor that wasn't there to begin with is stupid to most. You should see the comments I get about my Twin turbo mustang .. Some think it's cool others think I am a moron and should have gone with a carburator and supercharger. |
Alright... So looks like I got an lq4 on my way... ! LS boat comin soon
|
OK , so maybe I should start a project thread ... Not sure under what section but anyhow ...
Got myself a Lq4 , 01 with Aluminum heads... Motor seems really healthy but it's got some mileage... Figured I would stick it near my mustang to put some pressure on my modular 4.6 32v to perform this summer if not I am swapping in the LS :P http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...pstyumm4hj.jpg http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...psffdkbl6d.jpg |

those are the manifolds I had before I decided to go with the headers. I bought my starter thru them to |
Any updates?
|
Nope :(
But since you guys are asking .... Il just post pictures of what I have been up too ! :P So this is the boat it will going in , http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...psvrvoabpz.jpg http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...psblk1qcdd.jpg And this is what I have been having fun ryding ... My buddies 38 top gun. Lake was beautiful on the weekend. http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...psakpidhvh.jpg http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...psqg5vkrcg.jpg http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...psu2k4npwv.jpg |
What engine is in yr boat now
|
No engine , the previous owner sold the engine , the drive & gimball and the steering.
So I don't see myself putting it back together this summer. I have a stupid summer car project that I have been building for 2-3 years now and it's misssing just a few things for the project to be truly done... So will do that this summer and then put the progression in front for next summer. |

LoL , I meant not putting it back to run it during this summer :P
But yeah will probably work on it over the winter to hopefully be in the water summer 2016 |
Update , Getting all the parts to complete the Project so has I hope 2016 summer it will see the water !

Those were some king kong trim tabs on that sucker!! Saw a cherry malibu corvette edition few months ago (the cheap 50k when new version. A new vette back then was 36k) remember that was before the vortec motors. Way before the ls motors. And down here in pick up truck land used whipple kits for the ls truck motors are cheaper than a used set of catalyst manifolds from a ctsv or zo6 powered wake boat.
I heard the optispark was born about the same time putting the engine under the windshield became all the rage . still need a specially prepped rotating assy to reliably live past 5500 and 350hp wfo on the 5.7 lt. Glad you went ls |
Thanks for the info , I think my Lq4 6.0 LS should do pretty good N/A at first and then will see what happens.
