Advice on nortech 36 purchase

Hello oso friends. Was hoping for some good advice on purchase of nor tech 36 set up with merc 700's and nxt. I have placed a deposit on one and the deal is conditional on marine survey, mechanical inspection of motors/ drives and ultimately a sea trial. What should I be looking for? Listening for? Etc, etc. I have never owned a cat and last thing I want to do is buy somebody else's problems or a piece of crap!!! Thanks, Mark

From reading the beware section you need a paid off, cleared and clean title. If no title make sure a bank doesn't have a lean against it. Apparently it's overlooked quite often.

Clean title for boat and trailer.
Check motors out well. (hours ran @ rpm, whipple upgrades, etc)
Run the boat

Did you inquire about insurance rates (being a first time cat owner)?

Post a pic of the boat and get a little feedback about the history.

The most important piece of advice ! Take the TRES MARTIN COURSE if you buy the boat.

36 Nortechs are great boats. The 700's with NXT drives are very reliable. Scan the ECU for hours and codes. Get a survey also if you are not sure what to look for.

Thanks the boat is being bought through a dealer so liens are not applicable-you are right about pretty and when someone is done with it-thanks

allsquaredup 04-07-2015 10:55 AM

Thanks cla clean title oat and trailer is good-I believe the 700's have stage 1 or even two upgrades-will be having a survey and mechanical inspection completed before the sea trial. Thanks

Thanks did my homework on the insurance before making the offer-it's a lot more than my donzi cc but as they say one must pay to play!! Thanks

Thanks the boat is named all in there is a video of it running on youtube. Boat is registered in canada and I will keep her up here on Georgian bay as well. Like many of these boats likely started out its life in this states. Thanks

allsquaredup 04-07-2015 11:00 AM

Thanks sy will be looking into that

Thanks brad I have heard that 700 next setup is great in this boat-hoping the leak down/mechanical inspection shows well. Thanks

Buying it through a dealer doesn't always mean it is lien free. Plenty of stories....search National Marine out of Ohio.

I would take the extra step to insure it is lien free from an outside source. Everyone does this when purchasing a home, not sure why people skip this step when buying 6 figure boats

The most important thing is that your eye candy/first mate is hot and will let you take bikini photos of her and post them on this site, so we can make stupid comments:party-smiley-004:

Seriously good luck with the purchase, hope the survey goes well.

I know the boat you are looking at. I personally know the last 2 owners and to say it has been maintained with an open chequebook would be an understatement. You are getting a good one there sir.

thats is great news erik-puts my mind at great ease-hopefully this ice on our lakes leaves us asap!!! cheers, Mark

I bought my Outerlimits from Canada and Double R helped me out with the transfer. VERY RELIABLE Guys name is Peter. He didn't have a whole lot to gain but an amazing reputation. Peter, thanks again if you reed this.

Not trying to derail your thread but I was looking at some cats and was wondering about the insurance thing. So when you get some numbers please share. Thanks. My Quatro and my Baja together was 6000./Year

Bleed down test on engines & make sure the boat has flappers or mufflers. Reversion has happened on them with the angle of the exhaust I'm told. Cool boats. Georgian bay is awesome I'm heading back to Manatoolin Island this fall on waterfowl hunt. Good luck
