So the shop said I can sell you the parts , give you some pointers but won't touch the motors.
His guy is not that good then.

Griff , maybe you have a point there but I will give him the benefit of the doubt... Is reason's are somewhat justified in the sense that he say's that if he does the work and the engine takes a dump just because something else was at the end of it's life he wouldn't want the customer ( my friend ) to be pissed...

If he is as good as he thinks he is, he should be able to inspect/check everything on the bottom end.
If the bottom is not good or even if he feels its should be redone because of hours, etc, a full rebuild of the entire engine will cost half as much as new long block.

But take 3 times as long if not more. And less liability. Business wise that makes more sense than charging 10k to do too ends and 40 hours later it needs rings and bearings.

Engine Research in Cobden or the builder in Toronto, name is slipping my mind. Can try Double R as well.

Bottom ends don't just go bad that fast. Lol. Some people have way more money than brains. Most bottom end failures I've seen in boats has to do with catastrophic failure. Valve train, leaky exhaust, oil pumps or improper tuning.

He's right those engines are finished but I will take them off his hands. Right...

Find a new shop- Don't see how the internal health can be determined by hours alone. Seems this shop doesn't want to invest the time for leak down test etc and would prefer to stick to plug and play. Doesn't mean they are a bad shop they may not have the means to do bottom end work.

I was hoping he was gonna buy some brand new crates also ... I would have loved a "finished'' 525 in my 24 progression .... but I made the "mistake" of calling Eddie Young and it looks like after all they might still be good... to bad for me.

Eddie is passionate and knows is stuff ! He was super helpful and gave me some homework to do before calling randoms parts out and doing work that might not need being done or the opposite that would be worse overlooking key maintenance ! I will be calling him back shortly after we pin-point what motors generation are in the boat exactly and he said he will set us up with a top end package. Look forward to calling him again he is really helpful and very nice to talk to !

420 HRS? Now I don't feel so bad about deciding to try to squeeze another season out of mine at 259 hrs.
