Anodizing Chrome
 

Can a small brand new chrome piece be anodized in yellow? If so, who do I call? (it needs to be more durable than paint)

No, I do not believe you can anodize chrome, but this will give you a similar look and is fairly cheap.

Pretty sure you can not anodize anything that is coated. Chrome is a coating. You would need to have it stripped and then anodize it. Keep in mind you can only anodize alloys. If its chrome plates steal or SS, you can not have it dipped for anodizing.

If the part is aluminum under the chrome, you could have it chemical bathed and anodize the aluminum, or have a candy powder over a silver base if the substrate is steel.

You can translucent powdercoat over chrome giving the surface a "candy" appearance but it will not be yellow, more like gold same with stripping and anodizing part will turn out gold not yellow. To get yellow must strip the chrome and paint or opaque powdercoat. Most of the time anodizing will not turn out well on a part previously chromed then stripped.

You could also look into hydro dipping, the sky is nearly the limit with that process

Alright, I screwed up. The part is polished SS. It is to stop the scuffing caused by the trailer's front roller. I'll be towing the boat 500 miles each way to Lake Cumberland this summer. I bought this part a couple years ago but had second thoughts about putting it on my boat. If it were yellow it would be hard to see it. So it sounds like anodizing is only for aluminum. Would a powdercoat hold up?

Third, PM me your address. I make urethane paint protection film, I'll make you up a couple of small pieces/samples from a heavy grade urethane which will protect it and be nearly invisible.

My first thought is to use the stainless part you have as is. Coating/painting/covering it will only scratch and degrade over time. Or try a clear 3M product that is used for rock chip prevention on cars. That way the paint color of the boat will show thru. Looks like you have replaced the roller by the eye, use the best urethane roller you can find. I have never had issues with the urethane roller on my paint.
