Why were they out there in that water? Did it come in that quick? I would be praying, sorry to hear.

Sudden 70 mile-per-hour winds made serious trouble on an otherwise nice day for those participating. Dozens of boats were caught and capsized as the storm hit, throwing sailors into the water.

Waves rising as tall as 10 feet were part of the sudden storm which passed quickly, but left its mark in the memories of all who witnessed it.

So far rescue personnel had pulled around 40 survivors from the water as of Sunday, scouring an area of over 2,500 miles. The Coast Guard has sent one large patrol boat, four smaller boats, and several helicopters to help with the search.

Im sorry to hear about this. The 1st thing that hit me watching the video was why wasn't the captain wearing his PFD? I bought a inflatable one to wear and I always wear it, even on clam days. You just done know what will happen. And if he was wearing it under his rain gear, he obviously docent know how to wear it properly. You can also see that his crew were not regular boaters. (wearing the orange horse shoes)

this is a good reminder that no matter what you think or how tough you think you are, Mother Nature always wins. this was a sad turn of events for folks out on what was a nice day. I have had storms come up on me in the Gulf of Mexico so fast there was no hope for shelter. RIP and speedy recovery to all.

I had a storm like that come up on me at night completely unseen just off SBI. Winds were measured about a mile away on land at over 85 mph.

Prayers to all and another reminder to be prepared at all times... because no one knows what's on the horizon.

I always felt that every time I went out on the water the best I could hope for was to break even with mother nature because you never beat her. I'm sure many of us have stories of being caught in some sudden unexpected weather, it's not fun and very humbling.
