Coming to the left coast 20th to 29th,what to do?

Going to be in and around Anaheim for a week,I have a convention there on the 27th to 29th.It sure would be awsome if one of you left coast folks would maybe offer up a real ocean ride to a great laker.I'll have wheels and would be happy to drive to wherever is necessary to catch a ride.

What sights or events should I put on my DO NOT MISS list?I have 7 days to hang out before the convention?

Audiofn 09-09-2002 08:53 AM

HMMMMM I am thinking the girls at the beaches is a can not miss :D:D

Mike J 09-09-2002 10:32 AM

chance some in the water

with the race Boats at
Huntington Beach that week
Also theres the last race
of the year for APBA/POPRA
Offshore.

Beach Girls

Good idea Audio, unfortunatley I really don't want to spend a week off work getting swatted in the back of the head by the other half :D Well, maybe a little scenery observation at the beach would be ok

PhantomChaos 09-09-2002 01:38 PM

I might not be in town the weekend of the 20th, and it sounds like you're working the 27-29th?

Mike J 09-09-2002 03:09 PM

Looks like your a week late for the Scope thing
and working for the Ventura race and one of
the boats crashed at the
Pittsburg Race (Kidstuf)
Sounds like a lot of work
to fix it.

If you drive down to Oceanside or maybe just Dana Point I will take you for a ride in my BatBoat. I remember I once asked for directions to the castle in Toronto and somebody drove 5 miles out of his way to make sure we found it. I guess that qualifies for me to drive an extra half hour to Dana Point.

Lake Shrine in Pacific Palisades and Huntington Gardens in Pasedena are both beautiful gardens if you like that sort of thing.

Venice Beach is where you see the bikinis if you prefer babes. North Hollywood is where to go if you don't ;-)

San Diego is where the LA people go on the weekend to get away or San Francisco is a must see if you have never been there.

Yosemite National Park is phonemonal and Lake Tahoe is great if you don't have a loud boat.

Phantom

Not really working that weekend, attending a conference/technical training/convention.Most official functions end around lunch time each day.
I will be around all week looking for fun and exciting things to do besides trying to look at beach girls without getting swatted too often:D

I threw up this post expecting to hear about loads of interesting things to do from all the west coasters and so far Audio and Tom are the only ones with suggestions. Is there really that little going on in California?
;)
Come on folks, where are the hot spots, where are the interesting spots, both natural and man made?

Inquiring tourist minds want to know:D

Anaheim

Close to Anaheim is Newport Beach and Costa mesa. Lottsa happening there. Especially Newport Beach and Balboa.

Theres a nizza Sports bar and great Italian restaurant in the mall close to the Marriott Suites in Costa Mesa ( I recommend that as a place to stay).
There are many sites to see

I used to live in Woodland Hills but did a lots of goofing off (errr, consulting) in those areas. Then there is always Blacks Beach, still totally nude I think. Thats the good thing the bad is too many AC/DC people there.
I'll try and remember some specific places. I havent been back there since I became a right coaster in Florida.
Take care..have fun
marc

Careful: Strange things happen out there:

gdfatha, that looks like one Hooters I want to stay the hell away from:D

Come one west coast folks,I have but one week to plan out my vacation activities, more suggestions please. These holidays are few and far between for me(dam business ownership)and I really want to do it up right while I am out there.:D

Audiofn 09-12-2002 08:41 AM

Airpacker I think you just picked a bad week when lots of them are bussy. That sucks because they are always GREAT hosts.

Jon

Tom 09-12-2002 12:18 PM

It depends on what you like to do. Send a list of things you like and I will try to come up with a list. Without knowing where to start it is hard to make suggestions. There is a new Church downtown LA that is the biggest west of the Mississippi. It has huge tapestries made by John Nava and is worth seeing. The Getty Museum is awesome, Magic Mountain has great roller coasters, Beverly Hills is nice, marvel at the endless traffic jams, you name it we can find it for you.

We already have one BatBoat ride scheduled, but you coujld bring tons of money and we could go out every day.

AirPacker .. we're not being rude or anything ... it's just that your dates are so far out ... out here, it's hard to plan our casual boating that far ahead. :D

I think I'll have my boat in the water on the weekend of the 20th and should have room for one more to make a lunch run. If my boat is full, I'm sure I can get someone to make room for you ;) Right guys ???

Since you'll be in Anehiem, you can go to the Big Ed and watch the 1st Place Angels play

For sure, go to Disneyland

Keep us posted

Tom,I am really looking forward to my first ride in a "Bat Boat".as for money, sure,I'll bring lots,I hear CA is a pretty expensive place:eek:
As for the question of what do I like to do,dam near anything that can raise pulse or blood pressure:D I rented a rag top for the week because someone told me thet driving the coast highway is a must do.Ya ,we are gonna do the disney thing somewhere along the line.
Cig1,lunch run?sounds good to me,I'll buy.
Dates so far out there?you left coasters are laid back aren't you;) Hell,I know dam near every boating date I can squeeze in in a summer months in advance:D as far as my schedule, outside the 27th,28 and 29th,anything is pretty much open.

Thanks for the offers and please believe me when I say that I never thought that anyone was being rude,a little laid back maybe but not rude:D

Tom 09-16-2002 07:03 PM

Airpacker,
When are you arriving? I did a test run yesterday and am ready as soon as we can go. I don't work so any time is great.

G,
About that lunch run. Where are you running from? Maybe we could join you and Airpacker could ride two boats the same day. We could even go Saturday to the Thuderboat Regatta on Saturday and go out into the ocean from there. I could trailer up a reasonable distance like Dana Point or ?

Tom

Steamin Rice 09-16-2002 07:06 PM

Uhhh, did somebody say LUNCH RUN this weekend??:D :D

If you guys could pull it off, you would really be a hit if you could run around the course to show off those great boats.

Airpacker, If you are a real high performance boater I would suggest that you stop in at Hallett Boats in Irwindale and ask them for a short tour of the factory. It isn't that big but you would be impressed. At the fairplex in Pomona you can see the dragstrip and the NHRA museum (if you are into car drag racing it is awsome). Rex Marine is only a block away from the Museum and it is nice. The Peterson Museum (car museum) is good and if you are into art the J. Paul Getty Museum is world class with a fantastic veiw of Los Angeles. Some things that may seem silly but that are actually pretty good are the tours of the Movie Stars Homes in Hollywood/Beverly Hills, Universal Studios Tour, Disneyland and it isn't very difficult to get tickets to see Jay Leno being taped (call the NBC Burbank studios and ask how to get tickets). The kids will be back in school so Magic Mountain and Knotts Berry Farm will be really fun without the crowds. If you are into baseball both the Angels and the Dodgers games are fun. Be sure to visit a marina, if you go to Venice Beach then Marina Del Rey is only a few blocks away. Just walking around any marina is fun, checking out the boats. Newport Beach is probably the most impressive with some good night life (you could go down to Dennis Rodmans nightclub and have a drink with him, it is only a $20.00 cover charge to get in! You can't miss his joint, it is on Pacific Coast Highway).
Hope this helps
Sincerely
Dennis Moore

One last thing!

I forgot one last thing, on the 22nd of September you could also go to the Long Beach High Performance Automotive Swap Meet (you could do it all between 7:00 and 10:00 in the morning and you might really enjoy it). It is literally in the shadows of the Boeing Aircraft Hangers at Long Beach Int. Airport off of the San Diego Freeway.

Tom 09-16-2002 09:44 PM

Dennis Rodman is an offshore fan too. I saw his boat at Dick Simon Marine. maybe you can get a ride with him and some groupies :)

Airpacker 09-17-2002 08:12 AM

Dennis,Rodmans...NOT:D But thank you for all the other information. As for the "if you are a real high performance boater" part,I am considered by friends and family as a BOATAHOLIC:D

Mike J 09-17-2002 08:16 AM
