I just happen to be one of those guys, let me check to see what my supplier charges me and that will be your cost....I will get right back to you.

thunderdan 09-10-2002 08:44 AM

I am making a few assumptions here so.....

assumption one-natural gas

MY COST:
electronic-986.37
millivolt-933.60

plus whatever the cost to ship.

One other option-

I do not know how old your heater is but......

I can get a natural gas-electronic- heater-185,000btu my cost $912.79

or same thing but 265,000 btu $1012.71
These are both Ray Pac heaters-

Scarab, takes Dan's advice and buy a new heater. Product will be new, new warranties etc....replacing heat exchangers are usually the point where a new heater is warranted.

Good Luck

Well the heater is only 3 years old 250,000 btu w/standing pilot very good shape always pulled in winter and stored in the basement... I only need the exchanger no header ends... 9 tubes 2 leak.. my supplier said I must have low PH....I test strip almost daily...adjust accordingly....WTF??? POOL IS 30' ROUND 54'' DEEP.... heater was 1600 new....

thunderdan 09-10-2002 12:17 PM

Test strips are not that accurate, but if you had that low of PH you would know it.

I would guess it could be caused by the way you feed chlorine into your pool. Do you add granular chlorine directly into the skimmer or do you brodcast it? Do you put the chlorine pucks into your skimmer basket or do you have a feeder, does your feeder have a check valve in it, or not?

The heat exchangers, as you can tell is the most expensive part of the heater, plus that is how the manufacturer makes up the money...on replacement parts.

Scarab3DMC 09-10-2002 02:11 PM

Chlorine is fed thru a feeder ...with a working check valve.. 3'' TABLETS.... I'm gonna fabricate a heater buy pass , so when I'm not using the heater I can buy pass and not constantly flow thru the heater..... I run the pump continualy to keep the pool clean..I also run a polaris 65 auto cleaner
