Skater or Spectre
I'm looking to go from my Fountain to a 30-32 outboard cat. Skater is at the top of my list, but for the price, Spectre is getting my attention. In a perfect world, I want 4 across the back and a full windshield. I know there are only a couple of 4 rear seat Skaters and I don't recall if both have a full windshield. The Spectre's I'm seeing have have a full windshield, but only 3 seats. Unless I wait until more Skaters come on the market, I have to wait or give in on the seat. I'm sure more Skater owners will be replacing the canopies with everything I've read. I'd like input on why Spectre is less expensive with the same power and what seems to be the same gauges and electronics. My intention of the thread is for useful information and not to be a bashing session on either brand for those who own them. Thanks in advance.

The spectre build quality is not bad but the Skater is superior. Also skaters just seem to perform and handle a little better.

I would add the 30 Motion to your list.
1. Skater 2. Motion 3. Spectre |
Of say the skaters defiantly look cooler. lol...
I believe the diffrence in price has a lot to do with lay up and materials used in the hull. I could be wrong tho. Hey, we do think a like. I'd like to go from my 29 Fountain to exactly what your looking at. And yes those Spectures are much less expensive. :) |
Not much difference in Motion and Spectre, I believe Jay Pilini (sp) who owned and built Spectre for quite some time also built Motion, or at least some of them. I love my 36 Spectre esp for the money, only wish there were more Spectres built with VI's around. If I was buying something else though would prob be a Nortech with VI's....

Motions in that size don't offer wrap-around windscreens.

Take a look here ,you might be surprised about the price and I have seen the build in the factory and ride in the C30 thats the same hull whit different deck ,the boat is designed by Dough wright just before he did the 32
http://www.predatorpowerboats.com/c306.htm it say coming soon for a while now but I heared some rumors that the first is on the way …...:party-smiley-004: |
Spectres are faster.:party-smiley-004:

I'll have a 2001 Spectra with Twin 300x on a Myco coming available today or tomorrow.

I have not owned a Skater but I currently own a 30 Spectre with outboards and it is a great boat. It is a very forgiving boat in the rough water and they run pretty good. Mine has a bench seat in the back and you can sit 4 wide no problem. I would definitely buy another..........

You're looking at doing the exact same move I did about 10 years ago - went from a 29 Fever to a 30 Motion cat. Never regretted it. Only reason I sold the Motion was the birth of my daughter (but in retrospect, the Motion would have been fine for weekend family outings). If you can swing the 32 Spectre, do so - great boat. Good luck!

I know it was not mentioned but what about the 28' E-Ticket? I love the lines of them. Are they comparable to the 28' skater?
|
Like Big Block said, I love my Spectre 30 with out boards. It is built solid, it rides good, its fast, and it’s forgiving/predictable in the rough water. Of course it’s still a cat and you can get yourself into a bind if you don’t know what you’re doing.

hey guys what about the new sonic??? jk jk jk jk jk

The 32 Skater is not a real good outboard boat unless it has triples. Big boat. The 28 Skater is by far the best and fastest outboard boat you can buy with twins. I have owned a number of 30 Motions with triple and twin outboard. The extra length of the 30 over a 28 is helpful in rough water. You are not gong to find wrap around windshields or 4 seats in in the back of 30-32' Motions, Spectres or used Skaters. They are simply not wide enough and wrap windshields is something that is fairly recent with builders. The new 32 Skaters will fit the need and are big money versus used boats you asked about but they are so big they need inboard power. A 32 Skater with inboards is a fantastic boat. Under $80,000 I would look for a 30 Spectre, 30 Motion or 28 Skater with twin 300XS.
