Go-Pro Advice

I'm looking for recommendations on a Go-Pro and mount. I have searched previous threads, but figured there is always new models being released. What's the best one for mounting on a boat? Ease of use, durability, etc. I'm not exactly a tech genius, so any help would be appreciated .

I have one those. Gopro copy. Takes great video, comes with a ton of mounts, and you can buy 4 for the price of one gopro. Just make sure you get the original one. The copies of the copy aren't that great.

WiFi works good on it and the water proof case went down 18 feet with me a couple weeks ago.

I have a Hero 3 Black Edition. It came with a remote and various mounts. I ended up buying a Brunton extended battery for the camera that will last many hours of run time. The factory battery in the camera is weak at best. Also the remote will need recharging after about 1 hr, so I plug it in when in use on the boat. I have used the GOPRO suction cup mount supplied with the camera on the boat, outside on cars, and on roadrace motorcycles at the track at near 150 MPH, no issues. Its expensive and frustrating to get the hang of using the camera but after a few uses it gets easy.

I crossed over to the dark side a couple of weeks ago with a Hero4 silver.
Needed the touch screen because it will usually be mounted in the hotshoe of the DSLR.

Seems like a winner so far...
Shot 20gb of footage hanging out of the helo in Texas but haven't had time to look at a second of it yet. :party-smiley-004:

eta: bought a bag of mounts and attachments on ebay for $15.

I personally recommend what Jay suggest, HERO 4 SILVER. You could go all out for a HERO BLACK but unless you plan on recording a lot of 4K I wouldnt spend the extra $100. The silver will shoot 4K but at a slower FPS. I use the GO PRO APP on my phone for all the camera adjustments, start/stop, etc. The silver will also do time lapse photos in both day or night then compile them at the end of the recording for a time lapse video. Its a pretty amazing camera for sure.

Thanks guys. I'll look int the Hero 4 Silver.

Before you mount it, look up 242LS in the cigarette section how he has his mounted on a pole behind the rear seat.He has the best videos.

Check out this video, It was shot using the ReplayXD Mini, they are $140. They have great mounts made of aluminum, with machine screws, (Not Plastic). the size of a lipstick case. are user friendly, before you spend your hard earned dollars, do some home work and check out all that is available. The bigger version is the PrimeX battery last 3 hrs 45 minutes.

I just picked up a Hero 4 Silver and the suction cup mount. I have no idea how to use it or use any of the editing software. So I am following this thread! Come on Summer.

I've seen this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Waterproof-1...item51cf3ed2e5 on ebay and really wondered if the company that makes the GoPro just started making their own?

How do you know which is the copy and which is the copy of the copy?

Looking also at all these models... What is saris racing on the board using? Can t believe i could trust a succion cup to hold a 400-600$ camera on the bow like in the atlantic city race video!

So comments from saris racing?
Comments from any other with last summer experience with those latest products?

I would also like to use them on snowmobiles and race car, same model would also fit the bill?

Thanks

I would let Pete B hook you up with his setup. I will be going that route before next season. As for mounts, Pete's camera is about the smallest and lightest out there. Both times I did Boyne Thunder I tried using a cheap gopro clone hooked to a cheap (under 15 dollar) suction cup mount and the camera stayed put. If you saw the video of my running, thats saying something. The camera itself that I tried (a cheap 30 dollar go pro clone) however was not up to the task

A few vids from the 3M mounts that come with the Go-Pro. I do not trust the suction cup.

Have you guys checked out the new Sessions Go Pro??.. it`s tiny!
I think they dropped the price, all the reviews I read mentioned it used to be $399 ... now $199.
I already have a silver but for $200 that thing is really nice.

PS
I`ve logged many hours big water hours on the suction cup without ever losing one.

I have used the Go-Pros and they have worked well. As a Garmin dealer just got one of the new VIRB XE. I have to say it is really nice. Built in GPS, Accelerometer, G Force and Wifi interface to their chart plotters. I just tried mine and you can control 4 cameras from one plotter. Also see the video on the plotter. The last cool thing is if you have engine data on the Garmin it will send that info to the Virb also to add the internal GPS info.
Just another option that is out there.

I have a GoPro Hero 4 Black.

The GoPro brand suction cup mount is unbelievably strong when stuck down correctly.

One of the cooler things I have done with mine is attach it to an 8 foot banister rod I got from Lowes. I can get some pretty awesome shots without a drone.

can you show a picture of how you can attach the camera safely to the pole?

Don Johnson 12-18-2015 03:43 PM

Below is a link to a video I shot with my Sony Action Camera on a suction cup mount. I am no video techy by any stretch..... The free Sony editing software has the GPS overlay which is pretty cool and their software is super easy to master in 1 hour. I also bought the remote for the camera and mounted it with Velcro to my dash so I can view what the camera sees and start and stop recording easily. Best Buy had all the stuff.

[QUOTE=jeff32;4386444]can you show a picture of how you can attach the camera safely to the pole?[/QUOTE.

All I did was duct tape one of the mounts that came with my GoPro to the end of the banister rod. It's not fancy by any means, but it works.

My first variation of this "GoPole" was a broomstick handle. In the end I decided that bigger was better so I went with the 8 footer.
