CMI Releases Evo-X Headers for Mercury Racing QC4v Engines

Quick heads-up on a hot new product from CMI, http://speedonthewater.com/new-boats...g-qc4v-engines

ya know at first i thought whats the point but they make a pretty good argument about the durability of cast headers in the event of loss of water pressure. Takes a few seconds to smoke cast aluminum.

17K a set  . . . . . . is what it is if yer gonna play at that level though :D

Maybe.. But what was the cost to develop them and how many can they sell? R&D is expensive.

built tougher to withstand a hose blowing lose and over heating,,,,,hmmm.wonder how tough they are when it comes to leaking?cmi/mercury remind me of my doctor,,,,,lets try this and see if it works out.

We spent a year developing this upgrade with CMI... The amount of test sets fabricated, built and tested (remember Miss Geico requires two sets to test on the water) easily equals the 5 sets of burnt up cast aluminum header sets we have gone through..... the ensuing damage was not pretty. Each set is meticulously engineered to fit these 100+k motor and don't think the R&D money hasn't been spent..... it has and the number was not small. Every race and test video documented until the team knew the design was right.
Cheap insurance if you run big numbers hard.

bottom line ..if you have one of these motors , run hard or race...don't mess around because the 50k rebuild/hassle is a bad day.

The CMI team has been tremendous to work with , committed to creating the best possible product they can build.

So if you buy a 1100 on up and run it hard you will have issues on a 100k plus motor from Merc!!!! They should provide them with all there turbo motors and not charge the customer more. They kept on pulling this crap pretty soon they will not have any HP customers.

When you are consistently running the limits.. stuff happens. Pressures/temps are very high. Should any of these cross a line or fail it's nice to be able to catch it and not wreck everything. . Stainless/Inconel a more durable solution. The current OEM system is adequate for most users and yes we believe they could offer this on their Race Series motors.
