What do you think of the new Key West (APBA) course?
Has anyone seen the new course for the APBA Worlds? Take a look and let me know what you think.

Looks the Same???
|
That's a new one!
Wow, I hope they at least start it on the out bound leg. That couse is going to be a joke for people going to KW looking for rough water. Turn 6 could be alittle bumpy but 3,4,5 are going to be in shallower water where it probably won't get rough. Last years course was very good but I don't like the looks of this. If they start this with turn 1 being the first turn it could be ugly. I was soooo happy when APBA got Key West back but that course IS NOT what KW is all about.

Are they running into the harbour, past the Ocean Key house ?
Thats a great place to watch the race from. |
Looks real short!!!!
|
Need to run to the Dry Tortugas ,Whats that little course for Offshore Boats ?:D :D :D :D
|
Ryan, right on the money. The rough water section is gone. On the other hand, the spectators will get a much better view of the show. I for one would like all the rough water Key West has to offer, but, we'll setup for what we get.:) Pray for a storm.

That course is very short. The distance from 3 to 4 used to be about 3 miles if not more.
In 1995 B class we ran 10 laps that were 10 miles long each. The outside leg was way out of sight from land. Of course this is more spectator friendly and the boats will make lots of laps through the harbor. What kind of racing do you want. Racer racers or fan races? |
is that all you people do is complain. there will be plenty of rough water for you.
Treadwell |
There will still be the "hole" out of turn 3, "Where we tore the hatch off the Cig last year", and turn 6 will still be rough.

Worlds-2002
I don't know what the course's in the past looked like but this course should take you about a mile & 1/2 offshore. If' its a big water day then I think it should be great.
If I can talk the better half into a trip then we will be there. Wannabe |
Well first off I have never known Key West to ever be FLAT. It is always a rough race for everyone. Yes there have been calmer sea years that they have raced there but Keywest waters are always looking to throw you a whooping when you least expect it. Please do not forget either that it is still storm season there that time of the year. Does anyone remember how rough it got a day or two before the hurricane hit during the2001 APBA Worlds last year? I took a demo ride in a batboat last year during that time and boy was it rough. Each year you never know how it is gonna be but you will all hust have to wait until we get there this year.

DPT DONT YOU NEED A BOAT TO BE A CREW CHEIF:mad:
|
Actually most Crew Chiefs dont have there own boats. They work for other people. In which I do from time to time. Any chances on introducing yourself snglesstack????????????????
:) :) :) :) |
"Whats that little course for Offshore Boats"....bring your boat then and show us...
actually i think the water will be MUCH more inconsistant this year and will not allow a rythm to be achieved... the majority of the layout is in the sloppyest chit! any remember the carnage in this area last year????as tread says...."there will be plenty of rough water for you" |
As I stated above, I don't like the course. It is much too short. With 3, 4, & 5 being in shallower water it will take a big storm to make it rough there. If they run this course I don't think it will be rough. I grew up in Key West Lived there from 82-94. Seen almost every race there for the last 19 years except the 86 worlds.

hummm,,,i have a lot of hours logged in all sorts of boats there....the water is just as deap as the set-up last year...please review the below:

really...it's anyones guess til the race is over,,,what the conditions are like??....tide and wind direction have a ton to do with it....i've seen water coming over the rocks at the galleon marina (i stay there a lot as do my parrents:D ) but that does mean **** really:rolleyes:

And you know what - Just Say No was in first place - got out early - however - just so happens that Ms. INXS and I were in a convertable behind the race boats - and it's heck to get pictures of the boats racing home when all you can see is a couple of props!
Just Say No to storms in the Keys - I want to see a REAL race in the Keys. Corpus was awesome - but I'm looking forward to the Keys. |
Well the way course goes to the west of the island is up on to the flats toward the Marqueses Keys. From the map the it looks like it goes from mid 30 foot range in the middle of the harbor to 15-17 feet at turns 4 & 5. Thats seems to me like a pretty big difference but I am not the deep sea mariner like some others. I just don't see what the problem with the course going out into the ocean like it did last year is. My money is on Harwich in F2 if they race this course.
|
RB...thanks man i see how you arre! :D ....
the set-up they got go'n i more spectator friendly!...and the more turns....well the more excitment! that means more laps and more boats in front of people that are pay'n the bills right??? i think it's go'n to be a little sporty out there;) |
Joey no offense to you or anyone just that the course is too short and NOT taking advantages of what Key West has to offer. It looks to me like it will take away spector viewing at Ft. Zach by moving the course further offshore there and take away the rougher water wich SHOULD be a draw to KW with the rough and the flat.
|
NONE taken what so ever bro! it's really hard to say this far out...they may change it?? they do do that as you know!
hell i thought cleveland was was going to have a few bumps to offer...**** it was glass!...i think marathon was big in comparison!...lets just look forward to GOOD weather and A LOT of people!!! |
