just adding - Props also as they seem like no 2 props are exactly the same to produce 100 % exact same rpms together.
Another thing is throttle plate position and how the throttle cables react. For MPI engines you can look at other things with a scan tool - TPS - true running rpms compared to the tachs and so on, not to get into a story book about it. |
Just wait until you learn how to maneuver a twin. What a Difference.

I agree with the above. All by ear. I HATE listening to them out of sync.

You should be able to do everything around the dock without turning the wheel just keep it straight ahead and use the sticks. Idle is your friend, just go slow and be proactive in your shifts, think ahead. Learn how to use the throttles, both forward, one forward, one reverse, one in gear one out, same with backing. Go out in the open water place a buoy on an anchor and practice maneuvering around it. Once you master that start the same with wheel turned full stbd or port, the boat can go straight sideways.
During the week when there are not other boats around the marina practice docking forward and backing in. I believe there is a good explanation and how-to in "Chapman's Book of Piloting" (a good read all around) You will love the twins REALLY. |

Like they said, you will definitely get a sense from the sound when they are in synch! Nothing better than hearing two big blocks humming in tune!
