AC Unit freezes up

Question for anybody who has ac on their boats. The heat exchanger/radiatior unit on the ac in the cuddy will ice over and freeze up. This results in a lack of airflow through the vents inside the cuddy. The ac unit is located underneath the bed but has a vent opening to allow air from the cuddy to pass through. Any thoughts on how to prevent this from freezing over with it? Once it does freeze over, I have to turn up the heat setting on the control panel until the ice melts. Then drop the temperature again.

I have had the exact same problem. Sometimes it works fine for days and then all of a sudden it freezes up. I have added a fan for circulation at the air intake but does not really seem to help at all.

I would check the refridgerant and make sure it isn't low

Needs refrigerant

check the filter, the filter can get dirty and clogged causing no flow and icing. also check the coils to make sure they are clean.

Im assuming that is why the ac freezes up on my truck after a while too. Looses airflow in the cab till I shut off the compressor for a short while. Guess I'll be visiting advance autoparts again.

Either the filter is clogged, or you are low on freon.

If it only happens occasionally , you can put the unit in heat mode to rapidly melt the ice :)

I have had the same issue on many of our boats. when I first turn on the ac I bring down the temp in small increments allowing the compressor to cycle if the unit should freeze over bring the temp up just enough above the cabin temp allowing the compressor to cycle and the blower will melt any ice that may form on the coils.

On this subject I have the same issue and I think it is low on Refrig charge. What type does the systems take? 2006 Outerlimits?
