My first video

Upon the recommendation of another member on OSO bought a Sony Action cam with GPS enabled video, pretty cool technology. The Sony editing software overlays the GPS data onto the video... Attached is my first video

Nice job!!!

FunHome 08-18-2015 11:39 AM

Looks great!!
I did a quick google search for it?? Looks like the package is $359.00?? Does that include the gps or do you link it to your existing GPS?

Don Johnson 08-18-2015 11:55 AM

I got mine at Best Buy. There are a number of Sony Action cams to choose from but you need one that is GPS enabled and the GPS is built in. I spent about $420 for the camera, suction cup stand, 64 memory card and remote screen. The remote screen is cool, allows you to see what the camera sees and start and stop the camera at will. I removed the remote from the wrist band and velcro'd it to my dash. Then download the free Sony editing software and you are in business.

Great technology but the video quality itself doesn't look very crisp. Maybe it's just my feed.

BBCLiberator 08-18-2015 01:03 PM

It will never cease to amaze me how slow boats look when the camera is facing forward, that was super smooth, and a really nice set-up.

wrinkleface 08-18-2015 05:12 PM

Very cool!!!

502ss 08-18-2015 06:22 PM

Awesome! I would love to see video from the other boats you passed! Some looked like they were standing still! :)

Back4More 08-18-2015 06:33 PM

LOL
Great Video!

Yea, I recorded this video in 720/30fps setting due to the size of the files. The camera is capable of 1080/240 fps which would be much clearer but HUGE files....

Doesn't matter, blew by the other boats.

Really cool and great running boat!!!

insanedaddy 08-19-2015 01:46 AM

Try 1080/60fps. That works really good on my go pros. You are hauling ass.

scottw 08-19-2015 06:34 AM

Cool video. Nice work. Nice scenery. Where is that?

TooLateVTEC 08-19-2015 08:40 AM

buck35 08-19-2015 09:10 AM

Lol, I used to sit on my beach waiting until I could see the hillside reflecting on the water then strap on my ski and enjoy. Ssssssssssss
Great video, and scenery too!

Don Johnson 08-19-2015 09:33 AM

Thanks everyone!

Video was shot on the Colorado River just below Hoover Dam. It was 122 degrees that day, hot day but the cool 55 degree water helps make it tolerable..... This part of the river is unbelievably scenic and we make this run from Davis Dam (Lake Mojave) to Hoover Dam (Lake Mead) a couple times a year, it is a great boating day, 130 miles round trip.

I will try 1080/60 fps next video, thanks for the tip!

That was very cool...Caught those other sport boats like they were sitting still. Enjoy, be safe.

Does that mean your selling your Flat Deck?

ChaseO 08-19-2015 11:06 AM

1080/60fps is a good setting. The files are big, but not huge, and fairly clear. In all honesty, I don't have any complaints with your video. The point was clear than you were hauling the mail and a smooth ride. I loved the GPS overlay. Nice first vid.

TW720HVY 08-19-2015 11:11 AM

Great first video, talk about setting the bar high!

JIMKID Motorsports 08-19-2015 12:46 PM

Maybe when you are done dialing it in (kidding) I just keep watching the post form you and Frickstyle. I think your boats are both beautiful and have incredible hardware. I battle between buying something that is done or buying a project and building it. Problem is I don't think I would do anything different than you or Frickstyle (except for the dream of 6's) and I know I don't have the time to do it. Gun, Flat Deck, both tied for #1 in my book. I appreciate the time, technology, effort, thinking and money that you guys have put into to your boats. I really doubt you want to sell it, but there is always a price. I am originally from IL, Libertyville, get back there a couple of times a year to prove to family I am still alive. Would love to see your boat in person someday, (maybe with cash in hand).

Biff 08-19-2015 07:14 PM

Didn't mean to take this thread off track. Sorry Mr Johnson. I think your video is great. I have been watching for other devices besides GoPro.
The Sony seems pretty cool. Your boat is pretty fast and smooth.

Drew555 08-19-2015 07:25 PM

Way cool vid. I miss my air packer
