Nice Donzi high and dry upside down in the road!
Poor Boat!
What looks to have been a nice Donzi CC looks like a write off now! Please tell me that someone wasn't hauling this boat on its trailer backwards on a rollback vs. towing normal behind the rollback? I really hope this rollback is just hauling the trailer away because the tong looks to be kinda mangled. I see what looks to be a rear ended Mercedes SUV sitting behind the boat also? Anyone have more info on this? John |
It will be on Ebay next week with no mention of this.

Wonder what the tow vehicle was....the station wagon on the side of the tow truck or the white SUV little ways behind that! ;eek:
|
The freeway shoulder is a terrible place to blueprint a hull....

I don't believe it was the flatbed. look at the toung on the trailer. It's all sorts of bent.
|
It looks as though the Florida interstate system is nicer to Donzis than they are Skaters. The last Skater to see pavement down there several years ago got creamed by a garage truck as well as the guardrail.
|
Just some light road rash! Easy repair
|
That can be buffed out if anyone is on Chive.
|
Way reporters have been lately, suprized hey didn't call it an Iznod. Hah !
|
I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH DISGUSTING PORNOGRAPHY IN MY LIFE

Who puts a boat on a flat bed like that?
Why didnt he just tow it with the hitch? Is that too much to ask? |
As noted above, the hitch on that trailer is all twisted around.
The pic is more likely the tow truck that picked up the trailer after the accident.....hopefully anyway...lol. |
|
^ that made me chuckle.
What a crappy way to ruin a nice boat. |
Come on folks. The flatbed picked up the trailer after the wreck. The coupler is all wadded up, and where would the motors go if it was on trailer like that; resting on the center console?
|
To clarify...I kinda figured in the original post that the rollback was removing the trailer because the tong was basically gone. It was just funny that it took me a second to realize that. Anyhow, seems to me the original tow vehicle rear ended the SUV with the damage on the back that you can see on the side of the road in the video.
Since the rear of the trailer looks straight seems likely that the boat was not strapped to the rear of the trailer...not that straps would have completely kept the boat on the trailer. But they would have helped. From the looks of the marks on the road, the driver might have swerved some with the brakes on the floor and therefore didnt hit the SUV going straight...then the boat came off the trailer(which wasn't in line with the tow vehicle) glanced off the left rear of the tow vehicle hit the road at an angle "hooked" and rolled. John |
gotta love the headline, "boat slips off trailer". I didnt realize that slipping off something meant sliding across the pavement and rolling upside down.
|
We use to want to know what really happened. I guess those days are gone.

*note - I don't believe standard 400-800 lb. motorcycle/cargo straps will hold in an decent accident. They simply help keep the boat from bouncing around on the trailer when you hit big bumps in the highway. john |

In MN anyboat over 16ft has to have a transom strap on it, according to the nice state tropper that pulled me over last weekend. :(
He atleast let me off with a warning, maybe because my 9 month old was crying, once we got back on the road she stopped. Smart kid. I should add that I alawys put one on any of my boats, but I picked this on up from a customer on my way home from the cabin. His boat he can do what he wants. |

But then again that's just me. In certain scenarios the straps will ultimately fail anyway. |
I would have to guess it was being towed on the flat bed truck..:eekdrop:
the lexus or Mercedes suv are to small tow that boat... I didn't see hitches on them |
So, lets assume(based on zero knowledge or facts) that the owner was towing this boat and trailer in a convention fashion behind a capable vehicle in a legal manner(well aside from maybe tail gating)...Traffic comes to a stop he cant get stopped hits the vehicle in front of him and somehow this boat ends up like this. I am pretty sure its the owners fault for rear ending someone(in Maryland it always is). Also assuming the owner has general full coverage policies on the boat and vehicle. what insurance covers this? I would guess the boat insurance, but am not sure as I guess i 've never looked at my policy that closely...maybe I should. Also I think there are cases where Home Owners insurance can come into play, but I think that is pertaining to things that might be in the bed of a truck like a lawnmower.

To my knowledge tow vehicle insurance extends to the trailer & whats being towed.
|
Typically, when you are towing something the vehicle insurance would cover anything on the hitch, boat/trailer included.
However, you can see how it would be easy to reach the limits of a traditional policy. Hence why Personal Liability Umbrella Policies are prudent for folks like us. |
+1 on the Umbrella Policy

My insurance, does not include what's being trailered. You need to insure the trailer but it does not include the contents it's holding....so just trailer. Crazy...glad I asked a bunch of years ago because before then I did what most do....assume. |

Many moons ago I was in a friends truck and he was towing a small 3 rail bike trailer(his) that had his and my XR650L's on it. Both bikes tagged and insured. We come around a turn on a windy back country road and a farm tractor towing a full trailer of hey or straw i dont know, either way it was taking up more than one lane on a small two lane road. My buddy swerves the right tires of the truck and trailer go off the shoulder where there happens to be a big wash out. the trailer coupler split open and the trailer came loose from the ball and flipped into the ditch. Both bikes had decent damage. In the end we both made claims on our individual bike insurances for the repairs as neither his truck nor his home owners would cover it.

Yes. Everytime - whether local or on longer trips.

That trailer looks like the bunks were NOT made for that boat. Probably why it fell off.
