What happens to old molds?
 
What happens to higer end companies molds? I know some molds end up for sale but what happens to companies like cig, mti, and outerlimits molds?

Typically will be left outside and the UV eats them all day long.

They end up on Craigslist as "Cigarette Raceboat Molds".....

I suspect very few get "sold" because the seller would be concerned about replica boats diluting their brand. In the case of a going out of business deal it wouldn't matter but if they were continuing to stay in business then it would be a valid concern. I also think the values wouldn't be real high, after all someone could easily make their own molds splashing a hull.

I asked a custom builder the same question one time. A reputable builder will make a new mold if needed after popping many boats from the same molds. Most high end builders chop the old ones up and destroy them.
