Thread locker use on new parts?

I just acquired a new engine coupler , it came with a new set of hex head screws along with washers.
Each bolt had some type of thread locker painted evenly on the threads.
I also attained a new thermostat housing and it had the same stuff on the threads .
I am familiar with red Loctite, its red, I am also familiar with blue Loctite, its blue !
But the stuff on the threads is brown flat in color does anyone know what Mercury is putting on the threads ?
Thank you in advance for the reply !

There are many different color AND type threadlockers and manufacturers. Not sure who Merc uses.

Brown, from Loctite, has lower breakaway torque tham their blue and red.

Here's a chart from Loctite:

:thankyouthankyou::thankyouthankyou:Another great response. How in the hell do you keep track of all this info you saved after all these years. A month from now someone will ask me about thread locker and I'll say, I saw that somewhere, then scratch my head. Thanks from all of us with Alzheimer's.

I remember most of it, and if not, Google works well.

True story: I have a decorative ceramic plate on our family room wall. It has our wedding date on it. I look at it a few times a week. Great marriage trick huh ?

Our brains can only hold so much stuff. I got married later in life, so I warned my wife I didn't have any brain cells left. Hah !

Sometimes it is an anti Galling product like Anti-Seize/Never Seize . especially if they were Stainless Bolts. The Brownish color could have been copper based. It's not always a thread locker, but a thread protector.....

SB is full of information on many different subjects. However it's like a buddy of mine told me years ago, if it'll never make you any money or never amount to a hill of beans you can bet Kelly, (that's me), knows all about it.
