'98 Scarab 29 - Wood in stringers?
Anyone know if Wellcraft used wood in the stringers of the Scarab 29 in 1998? I read a post on here that indicated Scarabs used foam/fiberglass for the stringers and wondering if that's true.
Have a boat with soft spots/rot in the floor and haven't gotten into it yet to see how extensive the rot is. Hoping wood was not used in the stringers. Any info is appreciated. |
Wellcraft used wood in everything!

Sometime around 97-98 they stated in the brochures that they had foam filled fiberglass stringers and composite transoms, at least in the Fishing boats :-(

FYI, you can go here http://www.wellcraft.com/resources/information and pull up Factory Brochures back to 1985...although they are somewhat limited as it gets older.

Every Wellcraft Scarab I have worked on was wood stringers and transom.

i think it would be a safe bet that the stringers&transom are wood.i will also say that a lot of them are rotted because of poor sealing of accessories mounted on the transom like trim tabs.

Our 99 270 coastal had fg grid and foam stringers but wood transom. After a hard run we got cracks in fg stringers....but it was a fun ride.

FYI they ALL had stringers made with fiberglass and they all had "composite" transoms..... its all marketing. the stringers were wood wrapped in fiberglass so alll the stringers were fiberglass and all the transoms were a composite of fiberglass, wood and resin. Hell I was doing a transome in a 77 nova and found a damn cigarette lighter glassed into the transom,,oops...
