Your opinion. Offer on my Cigarette
Well I got another offer on my Cigarette (1986 Flat Deck).
This time, it is not contingent on financing, trades, insurance or any of the other excuses I've heard lately. It is a cash deal with no BS but is is well below what I was thinking. We are in the very low $50s right now (OUTCH!!!). Do I take the deal or hold out & take the boat to FL for the winter where I can use it a few times & list it with a FL broker??? The boat is long paid for so I just have to continue to carry insurance. www.thunderboatalley.com/ddall_38.htm |
Is it a true cash deal like green and white? If so can you hide that kind of money? Could actually come out better in the long run then a check for 60K. Just some ideas to ponder. I know you have been having trouble getting action on that thing. Also don't forget Biggus needs a trailer so maybe there is some room to wheel and deal there as well.

This time of year? ........ Take the money and RUN !!! That boats in nice shape from what I've seen in pics. Take the hit if you really want to sell it , B4 you have to fix something else !!!!
Just my .02. Good Luck !!! JM |
get rid of it and get racing so i can beat ya ha ha sea ya
|
Dave,
As a Builder you know, "your frst offer is most likely the best offer" No BS, no financing, work this buyer "up" no one walks away from agood deal for 10%, maybe a 10% increase can get te del done. The cost of bringing the boat to Fla. Rack storage for the winter, the added Ins. premium, sell the boat now. Philip |
Dave,
That offer sounds pretty good...and a bird in the hand is...well, you know the rest. Take the money and run... Sean |
Sean LOL I was going to put that as well but did not want to get Dave all excited :D:D Next thing ya know he would be at Scores and that 50 would be 30 before we knew it!!! :D:D
|
LOL...I wonder how many SCORES bucks it would take to put that 38 in MY driveway???:D :D :D
|
Dave,
Sounds way cheap. I've seen the boat it's worth more then that. I know you have had it for sale for awhile. It's a tough decision. I would hold out. Just my $.02 Good luck, Mark |
Yeah, I'd hold out too. But only because I want it for myself. Ok, here's the deal. Mr Cig offered to take my wife Barb and I on the COPS run Saturday. I've been saying for quite some time that my next (and LAST) boat will be a 38 or 35 Cigarette Well, the ride in Mr. Cig's boat was fantastic. Are you anywhere close to Newport Beach? A friend of ours lives in Lake Forest and would probably be willing to snap some shots of your boat for us, if that's alright with you. I know there are a couple web addresses with pics of the boat. Any chance you could post them here? Thanks in advance. Dave

That sound Cheap
DJD,
That offer sounds on the low end. What was the performance you were getting with the 625's? Must have been mid-upper 70's? |
i'v ebeen kickign myself for not taking the first ofer on my scarab last year. Now i've sunk a ****loa dof money into it. Granted its goign to be nice when its done but If i sodl it I coudl haev boughat newer bigge rboat that didn;t need to have ton of $$$ thrown at it.
That being said don't sell. I want it, I just need to amke some more money first  but seriously if the offer is legit sell it. |
Dave, if I were in your shoes, I`d keep it and enjoy it.
50k doesn`t buy much as far as 38 Cigs go.or other quality performance boats. although 50k willl buy a new 27' Rinker :D KEEP IT KEEP IT KEEP IT:D |
Also, is there any truth to the rumor of Cigarette going with huge price increases in the near future?
If so, it will make the used boats worth much more. Just like what has happened with Outer Limits. |
It is listed at:
http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/9/9/1721599.htm and www.thunderboatalley.com/ddall_38.htm (thanks again Sean) I already am insured in FL waters as I hve kept it down there for the past few yrs & used it 7 or 8 times over the winter with the FL powerboat club. Crazyhoarse, You couldn't get my boat any farther away from CA without leaving the States. I'm in CT (but I can Fed Ex a video tape). |
Dave...being associated with the real estate industry, we find that many times the first offer is the best. You've had it on the market for some time now. Sometimes if a house has been on the market for a long time, it gets shopworn and people start wondering whats wrong with it. I'm as puzzled as everybody else why that boat hasn't sold. You've had it in Powerboat, internet and Ocean Performance. It seems you done all the right things. Although real estate is a different product, I think some of the concepts are similar here. Do you know a broker in FL that will give you honest input into whether or not there would be interest down there for this boat during the winter months? This economy blows and it seems that the buyers have the upper hand this time. I'd see if you can get him up a couple of grand and sell it. Steve
|
Dave,
I'd take the cash, just my .02 |
Let's see, is Connecticut over where the sun comes up? How the heck did I get that side of the world confused with the sunset side? What a roundhead.
|
DJD,
$50,000.00 Cash. Ship It!!! By the time you take it to FL. Pay a 10% Broker fee. Put "Sea Trial" hours on it. Deal with "potential Buyers" You will be right back at $50K or lower and have a bad taste in your mouth about the whole process (Not that you already dont) Take the money and spend it on something you want, as oppesed to holding onto something you dont. |
The the cash & run!!!!
|
TAKE THE $CASH.GIVE THE BUYER NO SEA TRIAL.BARE BOAT,NO LINES,FENDERS,ANCHOR,OR FUEL;) MAYBE THROW IN AN OIL ADDITIVE.LIKE SAND:D

Man that is such a beautiful boat. And at a little over 50 g's is a steal. Unreal that it wasn't snatched up long ago.
Its all about priorities. :) :) Brian |
