Bob Probert died of a heart attack[18] on July 5, 2010. During a severe heat wave, while boating on Lake St. Clair with his children, father-in-law, and mother-in-law when he developed what was described as "severe chest pain" and collapsed at approximately 2:00 pm local time. His father-in-law Dan Parkinson, the Cornwall, Ontario, chief of police, attempted CPR to save his life.[19] He was rushed to Windsor Regional Hospital's Metropolitan Campus with no vital signs. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead later that afternoon.[20][21]

Funeral services were held July 9, 2010, in Windsor, Ontario, and attended by several former teammates and opponents,[22] including Dino Ciccarelli, Tie Domi, Chris Nilan, Gerard Gallant, Doug Gilmour, Stu Grimson, Joey Kocur, Brad McCrimmon, Darren McCarty and Steve Yzerman, as well as Red Wings general manager Ken Holland and owners Mike and Marian Ilitch.[23] Yzerman delivered the eulogy.[23] In recognition of Probert's love of motorcycle riding, his funeral procession was led by a group of 54 motorcyclists, and his casket was transported on a custom-built motorcycle sidecar.[23] Probert is survived by his wife, Dani, and four children.[22]

Probert's family announced, on September 25, 2010, that his brain would be donated to the Sports Legacy Institute to assist researchers who are studying the effects of concussions and other sports-related head injuries.[24] In February 2011, it was announced by researchers at Boston University that they had found evidence of chronic traumatic encephalopathy in Probert's brain.[25] However the findings were not officially revealed in the press until late on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, by The New York Times and The Globe and Mail in Toronto.[26]

The Bob-Lo boat SS Columbia is now docked on the Buffalo River for further restoration. I understand the hull was refurbished in Toledo and they will be working on refurbishing her multiple decks over the next year or so while she is here. When she is done, she will be heading to the Hudson River to serve as a tour boat somewhere around New York City....

I do not know about the south channel, however I boat on the Niagara River which is half canadian and half US waters, and yes, that is what Canadian Customs told me. I stay on the Canadian side being a Canadian boat. The US as far as I am aware does not care if you boat in their waters as long as you do not land. But the Canadians still want you to check in if you go over the line.

I was referring to the hassle. Before 9/11 when you went to Canada by boat, you simply had to stop in at t place that had a Customs phone in station (boblo was/is one) and call in. Then they either told you to go ahead or wait to be inspected. Coming home (back to US) was a simple as going home. No call ins, no inspections, etc. Now you get more grief with UC customs agents than the Canadian agents... Now if you get caught by Customs agents crossing without going straight to a port for inspection or having your i68 form and radioing, there are sever penalties.....
