Potter Performance Engines...WOW!!!
Just wanted to take a moment to share a positive experience. There are a lot of posts on this site of guys being taken, done wrong, bad experiences, etc. But my dealings with Ron Potter were nothing but pure pleasure. He made me feel like family from day one. Upon arriving at Ron's shop I knew that I had chosen the right builder. His shop is as clean as an Operating Room! The organization of both his shop and office is amazing. He took the time to email me probably 50+ pictures along the way of the build. His time to completion was short. The engine was finished very nicely and runs great. Can't say enough about the whole experience!

That is great! Tell us more about the engine.

Nothing special. I told Ron I wanted reliability to be #1 on the list. He built me a mild 540. I had bought the engine from a guy on here. It was suppose to be 625hp with nothing but the best parts. It puked on me not long after I got it. Turns out it had a bunch of off the shelf parts and a small HP500 carb. Ron wanted to change the intake and go to a dominator carb setup, but my budget wouldnt allow for this, we ended up running a BLP 4150 and still made over 600hp.

Ron is a Wizard!
...and a great guy to boot! |
I think Ron came from Innovation Marine, and they are both top notch.

Nothing wrong with 600hp! Enjoy.

Padraig Yeah, I'm pretty happy. When I said nothing special, I was talking in comparison to some of the more wild options Ron offers!!! |
Great feedback and nice with the 600...great hp + reliable!!
I'd have killed to have a couple of those in my PP |
I`ve often admired the beautiful engines on his web site .

Anyhow, glad to hear a good experience came out of it. Enjoy the new engine. :drink: |
Ron Potter was originally with Innovation and was the master behind all the great Nor-Tech engines from the early to mid 2000's.

I had the privilege of driving the old Speed Racer MTI catamaran twice with its then-owner Bob Christie on the throttles. The boat was powered by Potter 1350s that were as manageable and reliable as they come. We ran it up to 135, 140 mph a couple of times with lots and lots of throttle left (but way beyond my skill set and comfort level). Getting there was easy with those engines.
Since then I've dealt with Ron Potter and Christie on several editorial projects and both are a pleasure to work with. If Ron treats his customers the same way he's treated me during the years, and I have no reason to expect he doesn't, they're in good hands. |
I remember the piece you did when Speed Racer was in Ron's shop...his place is still as spotless as it was back then!
