Cord it is all the same but the end caps are different. You can alter the stroke if you want to give more or less turning radius. I am going with a 8" ram (by far the most common length) as I am going to put the rams inside the drive and also want to shorten up the turning radius on the boat just a bit so that the drives no longer can hit the tabs on a tight turn.

My buddy thinks that he is looking about about 1/3 the cost to build them from what the big guys are charging. We also have some ideas to make them perhaps stronger and even the possibility of exotic metals like Titanium and such.

The use of exotic metals is limited to bench racing. Stick to the standard stuff and apply the money elsewhere.

Cord you are correct but if some one wants him to spin up some titanium rams to "save weight" he will do it. Ya it sounds rediculous for some one to look to save weight there HOWEVER look at what Porche did with their race cars. They even drilled holes in the keys to save weight!!!:eek: :eek: :eek: If you ever get a chance to look at a 910 or 908 or 907 race car check out the effort that they went through to save weight. Including running oil up and down inside the frame rails instead of running a line up the sides.
