28 Cougar , Raced in 1993 I think. This pic is from Marathon. I don't know too much about the boat. I think Marshall Ives raced it.

This boat "Air Ride" raced in NPBA in 1987. It ran the Kilo in Key West at 92 MPH with V-8's it won the NPBA worlds that year over a pair of 24 Skaters and a 30' Triton.

I missed the "for Ted" part. What has brought about the interest in the English Cougars? I've got some good pictures on my other computer. 28' and I believe 25'.

Ted G 09-18-2002 06:46 PM

Thanks Ryan!!!! I am trying to get some ideas for paint/graphics since we might be doing a kind of retro restore job on this thing. At least we already have the V8's for it:D Would really appreciate anything anyone has.

Thanks Again

P.S. I need a couple more stickers, I'll e-mail you shortly.

Ted, Ryan,

Here is one more photo of a 28' Cougar, this was driven by Steve Curtis (Clyde's son-owner of Cougar) during the 1982? World Championship in Key West. Steve lost control while testing after a shrimp boat went by and kicked up a steep 4-5' wave. I saw this coming and got a few good shots of it loosing control. Hope this link works.
Ted, what boat are you restoring?

Thanks Bob. I have no idea what my boat looked like when it was racing. I got it from Sparky at Viscous Marine. He said it used to run on the Great Lakes. Heck-it might be that one:D

Ted G 09-19-2002 07:46 AM

OH......and I never want to try that maneuver:D

RE: 28' COUGAR>>> There is a 28' COUGAR with twin V-8's (OMC outboards) for sale in CENTER HARBOR, NEW HAMPSHIRE... It has front-to-back seating (NOT side-by-side seating) if any of you are interested.................................. It looks to be in decent shape......................

Ted G 09-19-2002 07:09 PM

Man, I would love some info on the one for sale. If it has V8s it would be a huge help to me to see the setup on it. If you can get me a number, e-mail, whatever, I'd be really grateful.

velocitoy 09-19-2002 07:35 PM

INSPTECH...Are you interested in the one in NEW HAMPSHIRE??? If so I can get you the phone #'s of the guy that is selling it, even if it's just to pick his brain... Let me know if I can help>>>>>>>

Ted G 10-04-2002 04:45 PM

Velocitoy-i didn't see your response till now-don't know why. If you can get me some conyact info that would be great.

Fred, thanks for the pic. That hull is way different than mine. The cockpit on mine is about 2 feet wider so you can sit 3 across the back. I guess they made race and pleasure versions. I am still trying to find the best way to mount outboards to a full flat transom.

Ted G 10-04-2002 05:07 PM

Fred- Here's a boat with "Too Old Project" written all over it:D

http://adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/6/9/654569.htm

A bunch of paint touches and some big power, then you can firesale it without ever running it:D

Ted G 10-04-2002 10:33 PM

Of course you might have to change your handle to

TOO COOL  :D

FunHome 10-05-2002 09:06 AM

Come on Too Old!! That would be AWSOME!!!

I would think the trailer and drives would be worth that much!! Then you could sell the scrap aluminum!!

Just kidding on scraping the boat!;)

Ted G 10-05-2002 12:50 PM

Not really. I got mine cheap but it needs a lot of work. I saw a similar boat rigged with twin v8 Evinrudes and they were asking about 25k for it. There seem to be very few of them around so it's hard to get a handle on it. Sparky at Viscous Marine sold me mine and said it handles and turns great. You might be able to get more info from him.

Ted G 10-05-2002 12:59 PM

OTOH.....if you really want one for a project:p

I already have the V8's for it, hydraulic helm, and some other misc stuff:D

And you have that beautiful Sonic just taking up space:)

UH OH I feel a trade coming on:eek:   :D

skat 10-05-2002 07:46 PM

Too Old if you are interested in the 28' I posted a picture of, I have alot more digitals I can e-mail you. I remember it had one good 2.5 and a blown 2.5. The transom had been drilled multiple times for different engine heights and triple O.B.s.

Ted G 10-06-2002 08:54 AM

Hey Skat, i would like to see those pics also, could you e-mail them to me please?

Thanks.

cougarman 09-13-2018 07:58 PM

Any of you fine gentlemen know where any of these 28's or 27's are?

Thank you
Jon
