I now have perect posture!

Just thought I would check in and let you folks know that my fusion surgery went well. I have already regained strength in my left foot as well as sensation in my left foot, leg, and right leg. I did have a fairly serious complication during the surgery in that the Dura(the cover that contains your cerbral/spinal fluid) was damaged trying to free it from the scar tissue of previous surgeryies. This meant and extended stay and having to lie flat on my back for several days. Thwy kept me so doped up I really dot recall much. As a mater of fact, Im higher than a kite on Percocet and Valium right now so pardon my grammer. I walked umaided to the end of my driveway todat, about 25 feet. After that I felt as if I had ran a marathon and slept for several hours. Anyway, thats about all Im good for now. Hope all is well with everyone else.

Glad to hear you are doing O.K. and can get out in the sun for at least a few minutes.

We all wish you a speedy recovery!!!

Chris,
Glad to see you are back and doing better. Hope this finally fixes all the problems. You may need to get a bigger boat. Let’s call it preventive Medicine. :p :D I'd be willing to take you and Kathi for a run next season. That way she will want a new boat more than you. :D You always have to make the wife happy.;) I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Chris

I'm glad to hear that everything went well. Let me know when you want to get together and watch the boats go by on my deck in South Haven. Any time is fine.;) :D

Man, I feel your pain.
I had mine fixed last December. No fusion but still had a two months recovery, then four months of light duty work.
Don't push it, take it easy. The better it heals, the longer it'll last.

Good luck.

Chris,
Glad to hear it. Take your time getting better. Spend your days shopping for bigger boats on the internet.;)

I had the same thing myself. Your story of walking to the mailbox brought back some memories. I felt the same way after walking that far but it sure felt good. It is amazing how much pain you are in before surgery and how it is gone after. Whatever you do stick to the program they give you. Walk ALOT and stretch every day. Do this like your life depends on it because it does. The more you move the better. Years ago they would have you on your back for months. Now they say get up and move. Good luck and stay active.

GET WELL SOON!:D

I second that advise! Just had my one year anniversary on my L3, L4,L5, S1 fusion. Played two hours of racquetball last night. Hang in there the slow recovery will pay off.:D :D

Great news! Get well soon.

Did you get your engine out of the boat for a winter project?

Chris, glad to hear all went well. I agree with others above.....pay attention to your recovery...these first weeks will be very crucial time and then you'll be 100% for next summer! (ps-prayers will continue!) Hope to see you guys over the colder months. :D Patti and Mark

I can relate to the sleeping part. After my knee replacement I'd go for a short walk and sleep all afternoon. I wish you the shortest possible recovery. I hope you're drinking prune juice with those percodan.

Gordo 09-19-2002 11:32 AM

Chris,
Been there done that myself, (C4-C5), and can appreciate what you may be going thru. keep the faith dude. I was back racing three months later !!!
Glad to hear you're back on the recovery road.
Best of luck to you.

Thanx for the nice responses guys. I actually walked a half mile today. Not bad for 10 days out of a lumbar fusion. I intend on being one of the good statistics. This place has provided me with alot of time to occupy my thoughts while this thing played out. See you soon.
