Powdercoat or...?
 

I need to re do the cleats on my A/T, but im mainly asking for opinions about my tubular swim platform. I want to change it to white from purple and its a little faded where the exhaust goes across it. Is there a paint that will hold up better than just re-powdercoating it in white?

Imron If you paint it now it will be rock hard by spring. It stays a little soft for a while after it is sprayed. SOFT as in not rock hard. It was the only paint I could keep on the outdrive running at Hardy. Everything else got sand blasted off.

Imron is some tough chit, had it on my last blower hatch...very shiney with no orange peel.

IF it's alum send it to get anodized!

Have one of the top PC guys here in Cincy if you need a good guy who knows his stuff. If you don't want to mess with IMRON PC is the way to go.

PC can be damaged by cleaners. IMRON is like a rock coating. After it is cured nothing will touch it. I have a BRAND new valve cover that was PC'd andt needs to be repainted because when I cleaned the inside before installing it on the engine the cleaner I used attacked the NEW PC

If you're going white, then I'd probably powdercoat it. I don't think the white will show any fading, but it will show more exhaust soot.

My platform on my 32 is purple powdercoated and above my exhaust tips. The mounting braces get all the exhaust on them and are faded.

I am going to add my 2 cents....its just an opinion. But its based on facts. I had a tube swim platform custom made for my Sonic years ago. White......The motors I had were tuned and ran great, it was the biggest pain in the ass to keep clean. I swear it got exhaust dust on it, when the boat was off and sitting on the F****ing trailer....lol. It was a bear to keep clean to say the least. If you have any other color to use. I would

The problem on almost all 32 AT's is the exhaust tips are right above the swim platform.
Any darker colors will get fading where the exhaust exits.White will show more soot but not fade.

If the platform is stainless steel or aluminum I would strip it to a natural look and run it that way to keep your sanity. No fading and easy to maintain. If its steel, Imron paint it and hope for the best.
