Can someone explain ?
Like to buy the SSM Gen III 4 1/2 exhaust, but i am confused. does the Stainless steel Marine do the GEN III exhaust ?
Why ? because they sell them for $4499.99 and on other website, shops, they sell them at $3999.99. $500 less then the manufacture, does this make scene? normally the manufacture has the best prices because he wants people do use his product as far as i know. |
"Stainless Marine Gen III" is the name of the exhaust.
Not "Stainless Steel Marine" I have seen vendors sell items cheaper than the manufacturer. Many times. |
Google "MAP Pricing" or "MAP Policy". The manufacturer sets the tone with its dealers. More and more manufacturers are monitoring advertised prices to level the playing field between cyber stores and brick and mortar.

Common practice across all products in all industries. Manufacturers (that sell direct, most don't) sell for retail only, and sell to theirs dealers at wholesale and let them sell for under retail if they like. Most Manufacturers have restrictions as to how low it can be sold, typically called minimum advertised pricing (MAP), this is meant to give all dealers an even playing field. Cheers, Dave. |

This is to "protect" their dealer network. IF a Manufacturer sells for less than their dealers, why would theirs dealers want to be their dealers?

Its really sad when a manufacture sets up on line stores, many times under fictitious names to hide, and sells for less than their dealer network. Its a good thing to see a manufacture support the retail price, this only strengthens the dealers who carry their products. A good example is GoPro and how protective they are of their dealer network and advertised price structure.
