Ilmore
Any reason not to buy a 625 boat?
Any reason to believe that parts will become hard to come by? |
Got any spare BLACKHAWK drive parts?

We all know merc doesn't support things very long |
What I meant by my question was how available are parts for a product a few years after it goes out of production. IF there is enough demand for parts then the aftermarket guys take over. IF NOT then the product dies a slow death. ( BLACKHAWK DRIVES ) for example.
|
I would buy it if the overall package is a good deal and YOU like it. The 625 is a GREAT engine and ilmor stands behind thier product.
Let's face it this hobby cost money, doesn't matter if a part is not produced currently or not. If it's not one thing breaking its another. There's NO cheap way out when it comes to SPEED! Enjoy your new boat! |
I just bought a Formula 382 with Ilmor 725s and I am very happy with them so far...and yes, I know of the fear of the discontinuation of the motor package I also own. However, I have emails from current Ilmor employees and have had conversations with current Ilmor employees and they will be supporting the product and they also state that while they have discontinued the product as of now, this doesn't mean they won't bring it back when the market may call for it. If you would like PM me and I can give you names and numbers of people who work there who would be more than happy to squash your fears of buying something that will be supported. And it will not be by aftermarket folks, but Ilmor people themselves.

I didn't realize Illmor limited production on the stern drive and HP engines. That's too bad, it seems they put out a great product. Just another sign of the times I guess
|
I am on my second Ilmor 725 boat and the support is beyond incredible! You should have no doubts buying one, they stand behind their products 1000%!
|
This year was my 6th season with the 625's. Great motors - supported by a customer oriented company. The experience has been a pleasure.
|
Thanks for the responses
Never heard anything bad about one |
Have friend with a set of 725's. Engines are awesome drives not so much. Indy drive broke (transmission) no parts available had to go back to factory took all summer.
Also, good luck finding props for the Indy drive. |

Props are the same as Mercury.

I read a few years ago that they had spring problems with at least the early versions. What year are the motors? If they are fairly old, I'd do some due-diligence on this. I talked to them at the Miami Boat Show and at that time, 2010-ish, the spring issue had been resolved. However, I don't know if they replaced the springs in the motors that were already sold and had hours on them......probably the customers problem unless still under warranty.

And on that day it was back in the rev limiter again. That is the 725 motor. Good work on your pad bottom BTW. |
Absolutely love them in the 34 saber.

Contact Ilmordude on OSO, he'll put any concerns you have to rest. 1st class operation.
|
Only real issue is the unsure future myths that continue to pop up. Biggest issue with that is resale usually takes a hit as many are afraid to purchase a ilmor powered boat.
|
Anyone have a contact at Ilmore for parts? like spark plugs, serp belt, filters?
|
Tuff 28-
120 that's awesome! what prop are you using? Indy drive? Where is your drive bullet nose relative to the boat's bottom V? Even, up1"? Any other mods? |

The thing I like about the 725 is that it does not lend itself to modification, it makes for excellent comparisons between boats with the same power. The TUFF 28 is all stock from Ilmor, it has the Indy drive and it is 3" above bottom. I have a Merc #6 prop (would love to try a Herring) |
Nice, 3" above bottom.
I am right even with the bottom. I wish Ilmor made a shorter lower unit. |
I have done some work on the v10 great motor would not hesitate to buy a boat with them great support from Ilmor good company going to be around a long time and always support there products my 3 cents worth inflation you know

great service from Ilmor. So much better than working with a dealer for Mercury. Ilmor have so much knowledge about their product and they are super responsive. I have a pair of MV7-10s in my Spectre. Goes great and is also excellent on fuel.
I always loved this short video of another Spectre with Ilmor 725s and Indys. 146MPH boat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwjHdkWdwOs |
Just bought a Spectre 36 poker run with 625 Ilmores
|
Now before you hit the water, make sure you got the anchor line tied to you're new anchor good and tight. Maybe a double knot this time. Haha
Congrats buddy. |
