in need of a alpha SS drive...
Who's got one to sell? :D :D
cash waiting :D :D :D |
Check to see if you can still get the SS upper case and the lower shaft and shift shaft. You can have your upper parts put into the new SS upper case and the new shorter drive and shift shaft put into your lower case. That is how I made my ALPHA SS for the GLASTRON -- The SS is 2 1/2 inches shorter than the stock ALPHA.
Thanks tink ;) I'll check it out.. how much MPH did youy get with the SS?
What ya planning on doing to the twin big blocks this winter?? :D :D :D :D |
Handling got a lot better and I think I gained at least 7 mph. But my propshaft was already only 5 1/2 inches below the bottom of the boat. The boat flew flat after the SS. The propshaft was 3 inches below the hull when I was done. Boy I miss that boat. Went for a ride on Fred Ransoms 26 AMERICAN OFFSHORE the other day and did 93 mph -- WOW that brought back memories of the glastron. Face blowing back. The rush of the speed low over the water.
cool tink thanks.. Mine X is very low so anything will help :)
IF your X is low it should help a lot and the boat wont want to fly bow high when you go ove a big wave since you wont have to trim it out as much to get to top speed.
The Alpha SS is one slick set up Trav!!
My buddy Andy put one on his 21 Checkmate Senator. I cant tell you if there was any speed gains though. Had engine problems right after and totally changed his engine set up so we couldn't compare apples to apples. I do know it was one pricey number new!!!   Did you pop your alpha or are you just looking to upgrade? |
tink.. thats the description of how my boats runs.. bow high and lots of trim, so much trim ( 2/3's) up on trailer. It sucks air and my oil temp gos sky high
Stripe- I have abused that thing for over 80 hrs and its still together :D but i don't think it will stand up to my driving habits and the little more power from winter tweaking :D :D :D |
I was pushing over 500 HP out of my SS and it finally had enough and I broke it two weeks in a row. The second time was caused by VAN's not repairing it properly. I only buy parts from VAN's now and only if I need them in a hurry.
Mercruiserparts.com. says the case is no longer avaiable but the drive shaft is $287 and the shift shaft is $36... so i need to find a upper case huh :(
You got it --- THE upper case is shorter on the ALPHA SS
The lower case is shorter on the BRAVO. I can't remember if their were any other mods that had to be done but it was doable for a lot less $$$. |
hehe... can you tell me who bought your old glastron :D :D LOL! maybe i can borrow hiw SS :D
Would you believe WHITEY bought the boat minus the engine and drive. He stole it. He says that he had almost as much fun with that boat as I did. He had it going in the mid 70's
WELL where did the drive go  :p
Ben Hurr bought it and ran it on his boat for a few years. I dont know if he is still running it or even has it. I kept the motor for a few years to put in a pro street mustang but finally decided that it would never happen so a guy stole it from me and put it in HIS pro street car.
ok.. just making sure you were not holding back on me :D :D
