Build a 650-700 hp engine. N/A or blower?

Just to read what are your general opinion on that matter...
I know it depends on what kind of boating you do... Fast hole shot? Cruising? Or top speed? Or how fast you want to reach top speed?

Lets put an average use, not a racing use. If you want to have a nice cruising speed most of time with occasionnal burst for top speed for... 30 seconds...

Would you choose to build a smaller cubic inches engine like a 502, with either a bds or pro charger or whipple...
Or
A bigger cubic inches engine, lets say... I dont know what reaches 700 hp in n/a engine but what, lets say a 540? Or 632 cubic inches?

Wich one would you build? Why? Would they be same cost? Needs to be reliable and dock friendly of course!

a n/a 540 can make 650 all day long with the right parts.

Mike what is the best route to take to build a motor to get the most power and reliability for the least amount of money?smaller cubes with less exotic parts with a blower or big cubes winding to the moon?

jeff32 02-16-2016 10:50 PM

Still, would you prefer n/a or blower?

i am a blower guy but for the performance you are looking for if you don,t already have an engine and need to start from scratch i would build a n/a 540.

i don,t know how to answer that.i guess it depends on the intended use.

OP starting from scratch or upgrading what's currently there?

Depending on what's there to work with and what has to be considered (like hatch clearance etc.) depends on what route would be the best bang for the buck to accomplish your goals.

Both N/A and forced induction in that HP range correctly packaged and built are GREAT engines.

Personally I would build the best value depending on the situation

Also depends what drive. A bravo xr is way over powered as it is with 650-700 hp. Now add the torque of a blower
