Thanks everyone .
Tejas Raz, THanks for the offer !

Well we got in the water ,ran about 2 miles to a friends house , changed the trailer boards that were rotted , set the timeing and headed out with a 45 Sonic as an escort .(Just in case )
Motors ran pretty good . THey need a little fine tuning but it's a good start . Water temps were down alot from the old motors . LAst year it was up around 180 -190. This time it was 120-130 ! OIl temp is way low .Barely makes 100. Or it could be the gauges ?? The only real problem is my mufflers are getting too hot and smoking ....... Yes, I have rubber mufflers that are awesome ! But the pipe right before it is not cooling right due to some changes I made this year in the cooling system .I got the engine water temps down but I need a bit more water in this one small pipe to cool it and hopefully that will keep the mufflers cool .

So ,anyway , I know ,I know ,,,, HOW FAST ? right ??

Well I had it on a short leash . I don't have my intercoolers hooked up yet as one is leaking so I had to run easy. Also the tanks are full of gas that is almost 1 1/2 years old , I have copper head gaskets that must be retorqued , AND , I have one distributer thats got a minor problem that I didn't want to over rev.

We ran south on the bay at around 2800-2900 @ about 60mph. Later We ran north with about 6 people at 2300 rpm's at about 40-45 mph .Not too bad ........ Thats when we noticed the muffler getting hot . THen of course a half dozen smart asses had to come cruising by at about 80mph and get me fired up !! So I pushed it up to about 80 nice and easy under 4000 rpm's and lots of throttle left and only about 4-5 lbs boost. THen I calmed myself and pulled back . I don't need to blow another one . THats what happened last year when someone temped me .RAn too hard , detonated ,and BOOM !! Don't need that again .

SO it worked out pretty good . Need to retorque heads , fix distributor , get new intercooler , fix heat problem in exhaust and then she'll run !

So who were the smart asses that went blowin by my in those V bottoms thinking you got one on the big cat !!?? I think I saw a Fountain , OUterlimits , And maybe a cig . And a few more . YOu guys looked real good cruisein by at a high rate of speed right off my starboard side ! And I would say the Fountain was the instigater ! He came in from behind for the kill ! He cut right right through the pack to up to me and make a point ! THat was cool to see so up close and personal ! It was very temping to teach you all a lesson ! BUt then I figure I let you go home with a good story to tell about how you spanked that big CAT ! HOpe to see you all again . YOu know you owe me a shot at the title ......... Here is an old piture of my mufflers . Notice the short 6" pipe just infront of them . THat one is getting hot and almost melting the muffler flange . I'll figure something out .

Is that 6" pipe water jacketed or does it just dump the water into the exhaust? If it is jacketed then the fill should be on the bottom. You didn't crash, break, get towed, sink and back on the trailer and home--You had a great day!!

MArty, THat pipe used to just dump in there but it would splash back in the motor . I got the idea to add an elbo inside to aim it back .After I did it , it dawned on me that it would not cool the pipe as water does not touch it now . SO I guess I need to jacket it .

Your right, NO crash , no burn , no sink , It was a good day !

Boot if youneed jacketed stuff made and don't wat to pay truly outrageous parts call Marine Manifold in farming dale NY. He is making some changes to my tailpipes and his prices are very fair not as cheap as a joe shcmoe welder but then again he deals with jacketed stuff all the time and understands what you need done with out explaining it 42 times.

The boat looks great, I love those 39 Express Cats. Take your time getting things right. Where did you get those mufflers?

mmo jo, Sorry I missed your quesion . It's a 39' express cat .

Puder ,thanks for the info.

Fishhead, It's a 39' express cat, just under 12' beam. It is suposed to weigh around 13,000 with fuel.(300 gallons). It has 588" motors with merlin heads and solid roller cams . 8-71 BDS blowers , Lee intercoolers and dual 1150 dominators .Boost is suposed to be max of 8 lbs but I haven't run it hard enough to see it .Before I bought it ,It was dynoed around 980-990 with the old motors . Then they upgraded cams and didn't dyno it . I just redid both motors to exactly how they were and also didn't dyno . I assume they are right around 980-1000hp. They have Huber 1330 trans , old style arneson 1600 drives without hydraulic adjustable trim. It has 1.32 ratio, and 17 1/2x31 or 32(I forget) 4 blade mercury props. I think it runs about 60-65 at around 3000. depends on everything ! Water , wind, load etc. I have very little time in it and don't know more exact rpm/speed range. LAst year , (one time )if I remember right I was some where near 115 at around 4500-4600 it is supopsed to run 120+. Sorry ,thats about all I know about it yet . Hopefully will know more soon !

Tomcat, The mufflers are by Salsbury. They are awesome . Makes it the perfect sound level at the dock but still has a tone that gets attention. They have rubber flaps inside that bend out of the way as you increase throttle . They ARE the best of both worlds ! One of the original owners of this boat did this . He now has a 48 express cat with either 1200 or 1300's in it and he said he uses them on that too . When he had my boat he said he burnt out a set of stainless ones. He said these held up better . I think these are around $200 each or less . Not too bad compared to stainless ones . They just take up a little more room .
