2016 Active Thunder 33 Evolution is ALIVE!

We finally had nice weather and other than a 20 mph south wind everything was perfect for a sea trial including the 3 to 5 footers that kicked up by the time we hit the water. This is a 2016 Active 33 Evolution equipped with Mercury 350 Verados mounted on a Stainless Marine 30" bracket. This makes the Evolution over 35 feet of offshore beast. Running out the inlet we hung a right and headed south towards Miami. All systems checked out and we ran along at a comfortable 50-55 mph cruise. We looped around and ran back inside where we had smooth water. I was really impressed how quickly this boat tipped over 70 mph. Being as we were in a 25 mph zone I pulled the throttles back to avoid the blue lights. It weighed in at 7500 lbs dry and we had 3 aboard plus 75 gallons of fuel so I was pleasantly surprised with the speed despite no prop testing. This was just a simple, new boat "shake down".

This new Evolution has a fully equipped cabin with over 7 feet of V-berth, a luxurious leather wrap-around couch that seats 6, a galley and enclosed electric head. Also we have added a fully removable Sunbrella Bimini to shade our newly designed cockpit. Even considering a combined wind of over 90 mph the cockpit remained pleasantly calm. And with the Verados we could talk to each other at speed and still hear the audio system. I was also happy with the design of a "lean seat" incorporated in the rear lounge headrest allowing the rear passengers to tuck in behind the front bolsters when running at speeds.

All in all I think we hit the nail squarely on the head staying in the performance arena but caving to the outboard trend and the more "utilitarian" use that boaters are turning to. Also I think we upped the game with the overnight amenities not available by most of the center console builders. Here is a boat that not only entertains the entire family during the day but at day's end gives mom and dad the aft conversation pit to relax with cocktails and friends while the kids watch movies and play video games in the cabin!

Very nice :) Great work

boatfreak 02-25-2016 07:10 PM

Very nice Pat and yeah 70 in a 25 is about fast enough.

sbracing 02-25-2016 07:18 PM

Beautiful boat, Mr. H.

Matt Trulio 02-25-2016 07:27 PM

A slightly different version with a bit more detail, http://speedonthewater.com/new-boats...-350-outboards.

I ran a bit behind Mr. Haughey—all apologies for the delay.

BEST OF BOTH WORLDS! Did over 2mpg also. When you get in, screw in the hose, flush for a few minutes....done! Engines have a few years warranty so no need to *****foot with them also. Can run w/o for miles at a time. What is not to like?

ImaPoser 02-25-2016 08:12 PM

Wow. That scores really high on my completely unrealistic dream boat build. As a life long performance boat poser, This hits pretty close to perfect. Can't wait to see and read more about it.

Speedracer29 02-25-2016 08:27 PM

Absolutely love the rear lounger. It's like a sunpad, with an option for toplessness. Great work all the way around.

DM 02-25-2016 08:44 PM

Sharp!

Sticker price? Price as delivered?

drejustice 02-26-2016 07:59 AM

Nice! Looks great with decent numbers ..Only improvement i'd say it needed would be 400s :cool-smiley-011: But that's just my 2 cents ....

DRB 02-26-2016 08:38 AM

Nice job Pat!! Great looking boat.

Mentalpause 02-26-2016 08:59 AM

Very nice job by AT. And great numbers too.

CrownHawg 02-26-2016 09:02 AM

That boat is bad azzz! Good looking, fast AND efficient!

ActiveThunder 02-26-2016 09:07 AM

We ran closer to 4 MPG all the way up to 4000. 3.8 MPG to be exact. At 4500 we were running 50 and dropped to 3 MPG. Very efficient cruise.

Very nice!

Sydwayz 02-26-2016 10:11 AM

Pat, what is the aft/starboard round Stainless piece, on top of the rear lounge? Transom Shower?

Wildman_grafix 02-26-2016 10:15 AM

I really like the paint looks good. Not sure if I like the recliners but so what there looks to be plenty of room to have whatever.

To me the 33 has better proportions then the 29. Great size boat.

Someone said 400's, can you get a 7 year warranty on the 400's?

Wildman_grafix 02-26-2016 10:18 AM

BTW
I would take this over a similar CC any day. Not bashing just saying I think AT may be on to something for those of us that would like the room and reliability of OB without giving up the things we like about go fasts.

Cup Holder?

Nate5.0 02-26-2016 11:04 AM

I think I am in love

MonkeySea2 02-26-2016 11:11 AM

NICE WORK AT!!! You guys are changing the game and finally someone is giving guys like me, who need more practicality than a typical performance boat offers, some options! I like these concepts way better than CCs. Still get the sexy looks of a traditional perf. boat with the space and amenities for a family.

You can't get 7 but you can still get 5 yrs :)

freshwaterfiend 02-26-2016 12:55 PM

Great job! Would love to see one with the 400R's on the back. If pricing on your 29 is any indication this should come in at a good price point, too. Well done.

Now that's just ridiculous in the best way. That's so cool.

I better spend another 200k to save on gas! :)

letterrip 02-26-2016 09:50 PM

Homerun!
Great job Pat! You are on to something here.

That cockpit layout is outstanding....home run for sure.

Jupiter Sunsation 02-27-2016 08:27 AM

Great build!

Pat,

Based on the performance of this hull with 350's, what would you expect it to do with a pair of 400's? If you built a 37 with OB's what would you expect from twin 400's or triple 400's?

302Sport 02-27-2016 09:28 AM

Triple 400's on a 37 would be the cats a$$. Most likely run high 80's with a 5 year warranty.

mikebrls 02-27-2016 11:01 AM

There's a few words that can describe Active Thunder's newest creation:

I hope you sell the hell out of these, so that in 10 years, I can afford to pick one up used!

I think this doesn't look anything like a 33 Active Thunder. Outboards are only popular because of all the #$*@@ engine builders in this country. I still prefer the sound of a big NA engine that and the look is much cleaner in my opinion.
