I watched this story on TV some years back. So sad the mechanic that did all the worked died. And of course sad what happens to the plane at the end. So close...

Hell...I thought you were displaying an old B Class boat :(

That's the one, very cool. I can't wait to see your work from that!

The sounds of those old warbirds will send a shiver down your spine. We have the Yankee Air Museum at Willow run up here in the Metro Detroit area that has several military planes. I was at an air show there a few years and listening to the B-17 was amazing. Listening to the B-25 Mitchell's flying overhead, i could not have imagined the fear that was struck into the hearts of the Chinese when they were flying overhead after Doolittle raid on Toyko.

My dad lives a couple miles from the tiny Naples airport.

We were sat down to dinner and I heard a distant roar that turned into a full blown roar. Ran out in the front yard knowing it had to be ww2ish, yep B-17 pulling out . Sweet sound.

We have a Beechcraft Starship that flies in and out of the airport about once a month. I can be anywhere in town and recognize the distinct sound of that pusher configuration from miles away.

Fifi is the only flying B 29 in the world.

Here is Enola Gay at the smithsonian at Dulles

Someday when I have a few bucks to blow, I am going up in that thing.

I was a ww2 buff when I was a kid with all my model Airplanes.

I got a chance to crawl around a B-17 years ago and was overwhelmed by what the men that flew them must have felt.

Very raw and tight, you can only imagine how loud and cold it must have been flying in one back in the war..

Time to fire up the ENOLA GAY again and build a NASCAR track in the middle east after the mission.

Father, was a Bombardier in a B-17. 8th Air Force out of England and all missions were over Germany. Was one of the lucky one's to make it home. Not without many Scares.

We rode the B-17 last August at willow run.
Bucket list stuff. Amazing ride.
My grandfather made 32 missions in the "lucky lady". We took my dad and I'll never forget it.
