These are a nice option for a overdrive box, problem being they probably have to much offset for your application with the #8s.

i have several sets of drop boxes, ect. I actually have the exact set you posted the pics of. They will not work in my application

Tyson, have you contacted the guys that have al copplands phenomenon? They have some custom drop boxes that may work for you.

PigNaPoke 11-05-2017 06:14 AM

if i remember correctly phenomenon had the same problem with the shafts flexing inward i believe causing some props to hit? probably the most power ever put through a setup like that, may throw out a flare an get in contact with some of the team that worked on the project?

my advice is slow down. play chess not checkers. before i could have figured out what my plans are, you have a set of drop boxes on the cnc table. (which is awesome, but impulsive. ) ps - not an attack so i hope you dont take it that way.

remember this speech in the movie days of thunder ? lol.

As mentioned earlier, have you tried these guys? Even if they don't have an off the shelf product they might have useful design experience.

Chess, not checkers....Good analagy. I’m assuming the engines have already been torn down, what are the results? I wondered why they chose the 6.7 crank instead of 5.9. I think there is a possibility the engines would be happier making 1000hp at 3500 r.p.m’s

You cannot use a tie bar because it would drag in the water coming through the tunnel and if you build a big stand up high it puts too much leverage on the trim ram and bends it. I made several parts just to be able to see how straight they were and had a trim pump inline to be able to spread them apart but when I would floor it they would start pulling together. I think the fluid was leaking past the seals. There are several things I could have tried to be able to keep them straight but it would still leave some questions about how to set it up where we know how to set up a 46 skater with number 8's to not have to do a lot of testing to get the sweet spot.

Why didn’t you call rick and ask him how to keep the arnesons straight? Seems it could have saved you a lot of money

Just got caught up on 20+ pages I missed...still the best boat thread ever anywhere! Sorry about the issues, hope to see them cleared up soon!

With the ability to make everything custom from scratch, maybe dual prop surface drives would be a solution.

Tborisch 11-18-2017 09:29 AM

Hey Tyson, how's it coming?

AZMIDLYF 11-18-2017 10:02 AM

Tyson, congrats on a solid showing in Key West.
