Yes we plan on doing the Assault On The Great Lakes. It was Chuck Norris and Walter Payton that set the record. Skaterfest is in Detroit August 1 st. so we will probably put the boat in at Douglas, MI on July 30 and drive over to Chicago and leave the next morning for Detroit trying to set the record on the way to Skaterfest.

Maybe we can get Chuck Norris to race us? Shouldn't he be able to swim that fast?

We are not sure what were going to build yet to get out of the sun. Some kind of bimini top with some straps going forward to the deck for support. We will probably end up making something like this.

You know me pretty well and I've had the opportunity to be a small part of many great things during my 23+ yrs in the sport. You are 100% spot on, this thread has my undivided attn & I'd pack my stuff up in a second to have an opportunity to contribute to something like this. As a side note I could probably live w/o navigating 30' seas in the dark w/o land anywhere in sight just to be honest.

Not sure if you've ever notied but NASCAR Stock cars have what we call a knee knocker. It's basically about 2" thick piece of energy absorbing foam that hangs from the steering column and protects the drivers knees / legs from smashing against one another in a side impact. the attached isn't one of ours but you get the idea.

We wanted to have radar on the boat and thought about having it on the bottom of a deck hatch and flip it over when we need it, But that would be hard on it and if we took a wave over the bow it would knock it off. So we decided it needed to be at the back of the boat but be high enough to look over the windshield. After some debate we decided to make a shark fin with the radar and our satellite uplink on it with the top several inches on the front of the shark fin being our air intake for the engine compartments and an opening up high in the back of it for exit air. The engine hatches are solid with no openings so any water from rough seas would have to make it to the middle of the boat and up a few feet to get into the engine compartments. Here are a few of our first renderings of what we wanted, then the mold I was making to build it.

I was wondering the same thing. I just assumed that the steps were part of the hull mold. How do they glue these together. Do other boat builders do this?
