1997 454mag Efi
I am considering buying a 502/600hp motor "new" for my boat. Thinking about selling the current motor. What could i get for it?

Probably 2-3k depending on whats included with it.
Personally, I'd store it until you're ready to sell the boat, then put it back in. A lot of times, stock power will make it easier to sell.

How could I get 550hp out of my current motor without putting a supercharger on it? I would be willing to take off the EFI and go to carb. Money is a big concern...I have about 5-6k to play with.

Why not just super charge or pro charge or whipple charge (etc etc etc) your current motor?? It has the forged pistons and crank and could take the load. Put a baby weiand (sp?) on there and a chiller. You could do that for under 6k I would think.

I have been told by several marinas including one family member
that manages a go-fast shop not to do it. He did pro-chargers for years and now all his customers are having problems after a few seasons.....this is not an option. I want to stay natural

CheckmateF1 had his HP500 Carb punched out to a 509, and supposedly, it was making 565 hp. Bruce Dudley did the work, but probably not the best route to go. Might be easiest to go for a new (used) long block, and swap the accessories. Definately keep that stock 454.
