mine stock with the 270 hp only did 58 mph. I have just a little mighty mouse in it now ;) but come spring the mouse will be mightier :D

Fobes... It is a great boat in the rough for how small it is. It is built very well.. My cousin and I had it in 4ft + waves out on the bay. It beat the **** outta us but the boat took it great, i was surprised  but spent most of the time in the air

The only problem I see is that you may start to break drives. I started breaking drives when my boat exceded 80 mph. Mine was lighter than yours though. Hey I broke the boat too. Had to add stringers and double up and lengthen the ones it had.

Good Solid Hull

My recollection of riding and driving a friends was at about 65 he got squirrly in a chop. Chine walk?

The alpha drive will begin breaking at the speeds you are talking. The gears are just to small, and I think you may need to upgrade the drive. On a 18.5 ft boat that means you might get tail heavy.

I own an 185 integra which has the same hull as the xlt just with an open bow and there is no way you could go 90. I think 80 is really pushing it, maybe with turbo and nitros. The hull is designed for cutting through waves and not high speed. My boat with around 310hp only goes 58 tops. Thats with many mods to the engine.

man this is a old tread. i have a 1978 19' baron (org. power play xlt 185 ). has not been out of the barn in 5 years. i run a 383 ci sb with a surface drive it runs 77 . i think they would handle 90. but man that fast in a 18' - 19' boat. just my thoughs.

traviss: great looking xlt. i have a arneson ads 6. boat runs great with it. runs a little flat in claim and fly's real flat. loves the big lake. that boat is a blast. i've owned it for almost 20 years now. a friend just called today wants to buy it but i will never sell it.
derrick: i'm surprised your boat only will run 58mph with 310 hp, a stock xlt with a 260 will run 58 - 60 mph.

Travis I think your right at the edge with the alpha, there are dozens of the 185's around Holland and I dont know of any that will run the speeds that you are! :drink:

Ah..... travis's boat is a POS... motor is always running hot... chine walks.... and the driver... man don't get me started on the driver!!!!

Honestly, I think I might be the only OSO'er to ride in Travis's boat.... goes like a RAPED APE!! And his motor looks good, runs good, and sounds even better... if I were to change one thing though trav, it would be to add a block mounted water pump and a thru hull intake for it... that way the motor won't get hot when idling for longer periods of time (like it did at Hardy). Alpha's don't pump a lot of water at idle.... Just a thought.
